Export or Publish????

I've had a tremendous amount of help from the support team at CC.Thank you!!!

However...I'm confused.
As some may have read earlier. I had a problem with my first attempt at my cart. I was able to "publish" the cart...but no images were showing.
Long story short...I did something wrong somehow and had to re-associate all of my images to a new cart.
I have deleted every trace of the old cart from the server and my local site and have made a new home for the new shop.

I was told via phone support to "export" the cart to my desk top. Which I did... Now what?

Do I upload via my server's FTP? What function does the "publish" button serve on the SCC? When I asked if I should upload via my Dreamweaver program, it was strongly suggested that I use the SCC to Publish...

Waaaay confused...
I'm ready to get this thing back on the web...just don't know how.

Anyone? Please?
Phone support is too busy and I will be traveling all day tomorrow.

Thanks,

Thanks,

When you export your site, it will generate all the files necessary to run your shop. You simply need to upload all of these files to your server.

The downfall of doing it manually is that you re-upload your entire shop each time, but the Publish in the software does a synchronization and only uploads the changes.

I guess my first question is why it's not letting you publish via SCC itself? Is it just not finishing the publish or are you getting error messages, and if this has already been addressed with Support then just tell me to shut up O.O hehe.

I've never had any difficulties with publishing myself other than a few times it can't connect which could be a zillion variables involved there and it's only been a few times so nothing I think to be alarmed about, but as Scott says, publishing is way better because you don't have to upload the whole shebang everytime you want to update.

Anyways, lemme know if you've already gone the ringer with Support on the Publish issue, because that I'm curious to know if you found out why.

On the original "publish" I had problems with ccdata error and image upload errors. It published after 9 attempts. But was corrupt.

However... I uploaded the 2nd version (via dreamweaver) and all seems fine. Now I just need to get my banner centered in the cart, to match the rest of the site. That and fix some text links in the site that pointed to the old corrupt cart.
That's small potatoes compared to what I've been going through the last few days.

I made a change this morning and had to upload the entire cart again. All seems fine though.

So the reinstall and redoing of the site etc. didn't fix the publish problem I take it? Or have you not tried it after that? I'll assume you probably did, but if you didn't you should backup your site and then try it and see if it works now too. If you did well then happy uploading and at least it's working now :)

I have been hitting my head against a wall trying to get my shopping cart updated. I've tried unsuccessfully with an ftp server, and every time I attempt to use the Publish button in the program, I consistently get "an error occurred while uploading" message. All my settings are correct, but still nothing. How do I know what the 'error' is??

Thanks for any and all help!

I would suggest you open a ticket cqr so you can address the problem more efficiently for error messages if you're not actually getting an error message that we can help you with. There are a few different things that can cause that error, and the tech team would be able to help you more with that. :)

Thanks Wolverana. I'll consider that option. In the meantime, I FINALLY was successful in updating the shopping cart.

Now I have another related question. Scott had said earlier:
Publish in the software does a synchronization and only uploads the changes

I find this so hard to fathom. My shopping cart is about 23MB's, and it took FORTY NINE MINUTES to "publish" using the publish button in the program. The changes to the cart were minor. And I'm not on dial-up. I'm on high-speed. Does that sound possible if everything is working right?

Hi. 49 minutes is slow, but if your server was busy at the time or undergoing periodic maintenance that would probably explain things, Just remember that with publish (or ftp) each file is being uploaded one at a time in sequence to the folder on your web server and that takes time.

Wow 49 minutes, that's really horrible. I don't even know what to say on that since my shop is more than double the size of yours at approx. 62.5 mb and it takes less than a minute or 2 for it to update each time I make changes. I would suspect something with your server or your internet on that one.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
