calculate shipping

My customers question for theirs & my first shopping cart:

Several items may ship freight, and freight has many variables in the cost. Is there a way to calculate shipping, like umm..eBay’s shipping calculator?

Is there away for me to do what she is asking with Shopping Cart Creator V 3.7 ?

Thank You in advance for any help here in the forum.

You must wait (and wait some more) for the Pro version to come out or look for another shopping cart solution. We are told the shipping options will be greatly enhanced in the Pro version of SCC. No date has been given (nor any status updates) as to when Pro will be available.

Cowboy what are you trying to do with the freight? What variables do you need?

There is generally a work around for most things and more features coming in SCC Pro
I know you believe you understand what you think I said...but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not exactly what I meant.

Its not really clear what the cowboy needs. Maybe if he lists what variables he needs you guys can help him better. Just a thought.

I need to be able to add for weights and/or sizes of the equipment. My clients competitor http://www.greatcoffeeequipment.com/servlet/Cart?smode=update has a zip code search that will estimate the shipping charges by whatever freight company (fedex/ups...etc).

I think this would work for them but I'm not familiar with the the shipping variables.
At the moment we are using Arkansas taxes and nothing for shipping.
I would like for the customer to be able to chose how they want it shipped. But sizes and weight come into play with freight companies and large items. (they sell beverage equipment; coffee/tea...etc).

So does this help you guys to help me?

Thanks in advance
Steve

Hi Steve,

yes thank you for clarifying that. It does make it easier to see what you need :)

At the moment there are a few things you can do:

What I do is have a set postage for all items and then if the item is bulky have an extra amount that is automatically set on that item to add to the postage if that item is selected.

But you could set weight categories. Say up to 500g is x amount, 501g-1kg is y amount and so on and add weights to each item description. At the moment the customer needs to manually add up weights and choose the correct category which is a bother.

You could set a flat rate for all items that covers the majority of items likely to be chosen. Perhaps offer a flat rate satchel if items fit in those and either wear the extra amount if it goes over or let your customers know that they may get an extra invoice if postage is more.

Maybe have categories for different item types, For example all widgets go at $5 postage, all thingymejigs go at $10 and youbeautgiantbits go for $30 shipping.

I'm sure there are other options as well.

I think most sellers can work around the shipping options somehow...not always using an ideal method but it can be done.

Pro is likely to have more options for shipping and that will be here "soon"
I know you believe you understand what you think I said...but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not exactly what I meant.

Thank You very much. Those ideas will give me something work towards here.
Atleast now I have some kind of idea as to how to present this to my client....TY again

I've read a lot of "SOON" on the pro version....anyone have any projected dates for it's release?
