In short, I'm trying to create a shopping cart experience for equipment checked out by students. No money or payment is involved.

Details:
I'm trying to determine if Shopping Cart Creator Pro will do the following:

1. Create a shopping cart experience, but not actually charge anything for the items.
or

2. If I have to add a price, simply make every item 1 unit cost (e.g. 1 dollar), and have the user "checkout" without filling out any billing information. I do want to capture user information, but no payment details.

3. I want to log inventory so students will know what is available for "checkout".

I really like what see so far, but cannot get around the payment features. I tried "publish as catalog", but that removes the shopping cart / check out feature.

What am I missing?

Unfortunately you're not looking for a shopping cart system you're looking for a library type checkout system. The Shopping Cart software here cannot do what you need on any of the 3 accounts.

1. You cannot setup a shopping cart system with CC's software that does not follow through on the checkout. This happens automatically and is via a payment gateway such as PayPal or Google Checkout or one of the others available.

2. No information is gathered by the program at all. Zip, Nil, Nada, Zilch, and so on. The information is gather by the payment gateway and therefore this will not work for you to capture information from the program or the checkout process. The information gathered from the payment gateway is sent to you via email which includes all the order information, and the customers information all but payment processing information. This only happens "after" a completed transaction.

3. Although you can technically show what is available for your products, it wouldn't do you much good since the first 2 things you need will not work for you anyways so in the end this pretty much won't help you either.

I would highly suggest trying to find some other way of a checkout system if the items are not actually being purchased. There's no offline payment system, no way to have transactions happen without payment processing. Hope you find what you're looking for and sorry this couldn't help you.
