The navigation option of Categories does not display anything when selected. It that correct? What should it display? Can that be disabled so users can't select the "categories" link but still can select the subs?

The subs work fine.

Works for me using Chrome browser

What browser did you try? Did you try any others?

I would change your settings under "Your Shop" then "Pages" tab. Now scroll down to Categories Page and select something to show.
