How can I have one shipping rate apply to the whole cart rather than per product?

Click "Apply default" on the basic info tab.
Make sure you have it setup in the "Your shop" / Shipping by clicking on Shipping at the top of SCCP.

I had that set, but it adds the amount to each product. So if there's 3 products, the amount is tripled. Since these are small/light items (more than 1 will fit in the same package as just 1), the rate needs to stay the same; so for 1 item–shipping = $3, or 3 items–shipping = $3 (rather than $9).

It seems to be adding 3X the rate per product.
The rate is 3.40 and the shipping on one item is coming up as 10.40
I seem to have mush for brains. I can't get the tax to show up (Illinois only) either.
I also need to have free shipping on totals over $30.

Ok I just got my shop updated. I set the shipping options to Add this amount to the shipping total and left all the other stuff on that page to 0.00. I tested and it kept the shipping at a fixed amount nomatter how many products I added to the cart. I did check the box to require customers to select an option but I only have one so I don't know if that will apply.

It seems that the 3.40 is there before anything is added to the cart, so if I choose 1 item the shipping is 6.80. I took out the default amounts on each product, the grid, and in the shipping options as well, but that 3.40 is still in there somewhere.
