Just add a bunch of ranges that will capture those possible combination.

1-4
4-8
8-10
10-12
12-14
14-16
16-18
18+

You only have to set it up once, after that you are all set. It will work.

I was thinking the same way you are Michael in the begining. Then I stopped and thought about it.
If you have an item that weighs 1 pound and ships for $4.90, If someone orders 4 of them, you are saying that the shipping should be 4 times the $4.90. That would be $19.60 to ship. In all fairness to the customer you would not want to do it this way because the shipping would then be astronomical.

Doing it the weight way, 1 pound would ship for $4.90 and 4 times that, most likely shipped in the same box, would be about $10.00. Much more fair to the customer.

I think if you do it your way, you will find that you would lose a lot of business because your shipping would be too high.

so how can i do it? I agree with you, i would like to add the UPS system but i don't think it's possible in this cart
what do you recommend, and what are you doing to make sure you get the shipping charges right without overcharging people?

Check out this thread Michael. I posted it yesterday and it will give you the low-down on the way that I am trying to set up my shipping. It is a lot of work, but from what I am gathering, we have no choice.

I wish this statement was true.

I was just online with the USPS to get the price list for Express Shipment. They are raising the prices on the first of the year. This means that any of you people that have your site setup with Express, have to do it all over again :o :o And as often as the Post Office raises their prices (it seems like every year!) this is going to be a nightmare!!

I really hope CC sees the aggravation this system really is. Please, I am not knocking your software, I think it is awesome. I would just like to see an upgrade that includes a shipping API. I know you guys are working on this, I just hope you get it done before the USPS raises there prices on Parcel post. :o ;)

What you could do Steven is just get into the Christmas spirit and not charge anything for shipping. This way you would not have to configure anything. ;)

Believe me Scott, I thought of that one too.
But I would have to increase the cost of my products to the point that one of two things would happen; either I loose business to the competition or I go out of business before I get started. Actually they're the same thing, aren't they!!

I am still giving serious consideration to this. Having the words FREE on your site seems to bring the customers rolling in!! So maybe not that bad an idea. In fact, this is probably the way to go until CC gets us an update with that shipping API ;);)

Now if I could just figure out who will give me FREE shipping supplies to ship my stuff in!!! (Not Priority either!!)

Go get a bunch of the priority boxes for free. Then just use red and green masking tape to cover over the postal service stuff and make it look like a gift box. Then you can ship that with any company.
