Product at top of Categories page has...

I'm in my "trial period" deciding whether to buy Shopping Cart Creator Pro.

When I PREVIEW my shop and click "Categories" in the menu, the Categories page comes up (of course), but its format is very confusing.
Each category appears TWICE -- once in big font, then again under that, with the heading "Products in [category]". For example, my first category is Video DVDs. That category-name appears at the top of the Categories page, along with the FULL DESCRIPTION of one of the specific products in that category. Then the category name appears again, as "Products in Video DVDs", and the smaller version of the product appears there.
To further confuse things, there is no ADD TO CART button associated with the full-description display of the product that appears at the top.

I don't understand why each Category appears twice -- it would make sense if the description under the Big-display of the category name described the CATEGORY instead of a specific product, but that's not the way it is...

Is there a way to fix this so that it's less confusing for a customer visiting the store?

Hiya Ernie,

I believe it's because of the way you have the featured products setup. The top one is a representative of the products in that category and therefore is mostly supposed to show what types of things are in that category, hence why the second name shows up as Products in... to show you all the products you have selected as either featured, or as the first 20 or first whatever.... etc... etc...

Go to those settings and play with them a bit and see if you can find one that fits your style more. There are a handful of ways that can all be displayed. If that doesn't do the trick let us know :)

I've seen several references to "featured products" in forum postings, but I can't find anything in Shopping Cart Creator that lets me configure featured products. The closest I can find is the option to have a product displayed on the home page. The Four Shop menu gives me the option of SHOWING featured products on various pages -- but there is no control for MAKING a product featured or not featured.

In the Your Shop menu, in the Categories Page section, I even trued turning off everything except "Show category name" -- but the full description of one product still shows up at the top of the Categories page, taking up most of the space -- and with NO "add to cart" button.

I did a search in the Help file (PDF) for "featured", but got no results.

Do I have an obsolete version of the product or something, that's missing "featured products" configurability? (I have version 3.8, Build 3863)

Instant update... I tried another variation: In the Categories Page section of the Your Shop menu, I turned off everything except SHOW PRODUCTS... and that seems to give me the result I wanted.

I'm still mystified as to why the full description of one product shows up, without any Add to Cart button, if I select "Show category name" in the Your Shop menu.

Another instant update -- spoke too soon: the variation mentioned above does NOT quite give me the result I want. The "Categories" page now looks the way I want it to look, but if I go to a specific category page (Video DVDs, in my case), that full-description of a single product dominates the top of the page, and to add to the confusion, does not have an Add to Cart button.

(I don't want that full description to show up on the Category page at all, but if it HAS to show up, I think it should at least include a button for ordering the product.)

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
