Paypal Express Checkout Configuration

Have followed your instructions to Request API Credentials, received them, and dutifully copied/pasted them into the appropriate fields in the Payment configuration for SCC. However, Paypal does not have any URL that I can find called Grant API Permission. So how are we supposed to get Paypal to play ball with this 3rd party shopping cart? Right now any attempt to use Paypal checkout returns a blank page and transaction hang. CTRL-F5 just gets you back to your shopping cart.

Russell, the 'Grant API Permission' is on the PayPal site. Login to your PayPal account. Select 'My Profile' from the menu. Then select 'My Selling Tools'. Go down the left menu till you see 'API Access' and select the UPDATE button on the right.
On the left you will see an option that says'Setting up API permissions and credentials' and under that 'Grant API permission'. Click that button. Fill in the blank and you should be good.
Good Luck.

I have no entry for 'My Selling Tools'. I have used Paypal for 12 yrs to handle internet payments. There are entries for gaining API Credentials, etc., but nothing like you mention.

Could it be you're on a personal account rather than a business level one?

Might be the case of a personal account. I just went through the PayPal menus, and it is like I described.

No, that is not it. I have had a business account for 12 years. I use Paypal Payments Pro, VIrtual Terminal, Paypal Express Checkout, and custom configure the Risk Controls.

I use another shopping cart at the moment, was just evaluating this one to see if it offers a better customer experience at checkout. Well, since it can't complete a simple transaction I don't think we can give it a grade higher than F-minus for customer experience.

Sorry, but that is the way I have to read it.

Sounds like the user needs a grade of F-Minus as it's very easy to use and since you ask one question and never bother to contact support to get assistance that's a user issue not the software issue. The software works as it's supposed to and completes transactions for many users without any problems so it's definitely a User error not a software downfall.

Before getting mouthy and belittling a company you may want to at least "attempt" to get help from those that create it. This is a user to user forum and if you don't find what you need here you have but to put in a Support Ticket (Topic) to get assistance from them which they are very willing to do.

Just sayin'..

We are not trying to use the Payments Pro interface. That is clearly not supported by SCC, this is stated in the documentation. We are trying to use the Paypal Express Checkout interface. This is the interface used by our current shopping cart. There are serious PCI compliance issues involving the Payments Pro interface.

As for the comment regarding a grade of F-minus, is not completing a financial transaction the primary job of a shopping cart application? Apparently I am confused as to the purpose of a shopping cart.

SCC appears to be primarily a catalog application. I am more concerned with the customer experience with the checkout process itself, that is what I wish to evaluate.

Thanks for your help and comments, I will just move on.

Actually Russel is right concerning the instructions when logged into PayPal. It appears that PayPal has changed their catagory tree, at least for new accounts. I managed to find where to request the credentials, however it was not as explained in the PDF help file.
