No cost product and inventory question

My client would like to be able have me put multiple examples of the custom work she does on her site. The problem is that since these items are not for sale they have no price and SCCP will not let me publish them without one. Is there any way to do this or in a perfect world turn off all purchasing options for just these examples? What I have done so far works but is certainly not attractive.
As far as my inventory question, do you use the "set" box under the SKU# to set the initial number of items in stock for that product?

Hiya Hazy,

It's kind of a strange way to show exmaples of custom work by adding them as products. You would be better to create a separate page for displaying a Custom Work Gallery or whatever you want to call it and then put the images on the page rather than as products. You can use lots of little scripts for the zooming windows if you have access to building external pages, or you should even be able to insert javascript code into the HTML Tool of an internally built page in the SCC program. That would provide a much better environment for displaying custom work than making them into products.

Hi JoAnn,
My reasoning (now remember my nickname:D) was that the custom work is offered as a product and I wanted to include it as a catagory. Creating a seperate gallery or pages would certainly work, but I don't know if I can include the link on the shop home page as a catagory selection. I'd really prefer to keep the continuity of the shop in that way. The additional pages display as links in the drop down menus and at the bottom of the page, but that doesn't draw enough attention as the catagory links IMHO. BTW, most of the images except for the prints are just for testing (Stephanni wanted me to say that)

Hazy, Just add another category then insert some html with linked images into that page.:) You don't need any products in a category to publish your shop.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Hi Eric - this sounds promising but I'm confused. Are you saying create another catagory PAGE or just a regular product catagory? I know I can insert links etc to a PAGE but am not aware how to do this in a product catagory. I would like to keep the catagory links on the home page to point to the examples.
Thanks

Goto product list in SCCP. Now add another product category to your shop. This category will show in your category list even without products. Then dbl. click on that category to add the linked image HTML code to it in the big white window.:) You can add a category then add subcategories with the same technics.
Paste this into the white box for the new category
[[[<img src="http://www.rookenterprizes.com/scott/shop/ccdata/images/imageMain_5_34.jpg">]]]

I don't know how far you want to go with this. If you have several different art types that you want to display then create a new product category for lets say "Examples of my work" Then create subcategories for each kind inserting the html linked images that are already uploaded to you server.:)

Hi Eric - I think your suggest will work perfectly. I'm playing around with it now and I think it gives me the flexibility I need with this. I'd recommend this as a great tip for users wanting to add not-for-sale items.
Thank you

Well, this is almost what I want but the test image is also displaying on the shop home page and this I do not want. I'll have to play a little more I guess. BTW, I am now using my clients host for testing

Here's what you do. Add a new Main product Category. You could put an image in for this as maybe a collage of art work or no image and just a discription to show up on the shops home page.
Add subcategories to this that will have the linked images.
Now goto "Your Shop" setting at the top of your shop design window.
Click on the pages tab.
Under "Shop Home"
Click the radio button "Show List of Catagories".
Check "Show catagory name".
Uncheck "Show subcategories"
Uncheck "Show products"

I bet this is what your looking for.

I think this is pretty much what seemed to work out (at least to my mind - I have a brain like a steel seive) I added a subcatagory to the main just as you said and added some images with HTML on the description page for the subcatagory. Also changed "catagory" to "images". I'll do some aligning and whatnot and add the proper copy when I get them from the client. Since the custom work does fall under originals it should be okay. I guess the only quibble would be to get rid of the "Categories in Original Watercolors" but this is good so far.
Thanks a lot
