How to create a page to customize...

I am working on a greeting card site, and the whole point of the shop is that customers can sign their cards using their mouse and a flash file.

I've been asked to re-do this site, and I want to use SCC Pro, but I don't know how to insert the customization option/page.

Is this even possible in SCC Pro?

Hiya adevandry,

At this time there is no built in customization methods. We've been given reason to believe it is something we might look for in a future update to the program though.

Right now what many people do is utilize the Form Builder program. Create a new page in your shop calling it Customization or whatever it is that fits your business so people know that's where they need to go (you can also include this info in an email to them if that would help). Then create a form that includes an upload feature with any pertinent information ( I would suggest grabbing most main information pieces that allow you to match it to the email order you get for them) as well as the Upload feature on the form.

Now put your customization program or link or however they do it on that page and have them do their customization, save it to their computer and then fill out the form and upload the file to you.

That's really the only simple solution I can think of. There might be an easier way someone else may know or has been using. Good luck with it and we're all looking forward to this feature in the future :)

Thanks for the explanation, but that workaround is ridiculous. One again, SCC drops the ball. What a poor program. I wish I could get a refund.

I'll look elsewhere.

Hiya adevandry,

I'm sorry you see it that way. Unfortunately you did have time to check all this out in the trial period before purchasing it so you should have been able to see what features were available and ask here prior to the purchase.

This feature does not make this a poor program in any way, and since it's a brand new barely been out of the box for a year program, I find it pretty "ridiculous" that you would expect every little feature of the big guys to be in it right off the bat. It's planned, that's better than many companies do with their software. They listen to their customers here for the things that are requested the most and in most cases they get added. In the case of this program, many things that require a database won't be added, but that's by design not by flaw.

Other than that, the program works as it should, does not say it has customization features in it anywhere at all and is therefore not a "poor" program. It works as intended and gives you time to see what's all in it and not in it. Poor testing doesn't make it a poor program. Sorry that happened.

Technically, I pre-paid for the software before it was released, so I didn't have a trial period.

It's brand new, but they postponed the release of the software for almost a year, and yet they still are missing a lot of key things.

For instance, they only have one drop-down category column. Why bother with a nav bar if you only allow for one category?

The developers went for more style than substance, obviously.

I'm really confused now. You prepaid and are just now seeing that it doesn't have this feature? The software has been released for a while already (many many months), it's not been just released now.

Don't get me wrong, I agree there are lots of little things that could/should be adjusted yet, but the best way to get what you want is to suggest it in the threads on the forums specifically created for suggestions for each particular program ... nicely rather than sarcastically of course :P

What is so confusing about it? I pre-paid, so I was not afforded a trial period. And I never claimed that I "just now" noticed SCC's shortcomings. You just made that part up.

I have been complaining about the lack of additional categories since the day the software was released.

The lack of customization is just another in a long list of complaints I have with SCC Pro.

The software has been out for several months, yet have ANY of the suggestions made on this forum been implemented yet? Regardless of how nice I ask, CC has no interest in updating the software with the suggestions.

There was no "pre-pay" to this, the purchase he made was just in September when we offered an exclusive price upgrade to existing SCC registered users. You didn't have to buy it early, you could have waited for the official release. ;)

We do monitor the user suggestions posted here all the time and quite a few have made it into the software. We just cannot however always add every requested feature. You also must understand that adding features takes time to implement.

I am sure if you went to the Microsoft forums and requested a feature for Expressions Web, you would :

a. Never get a reply
b. Ever see it implemented.

Just because a feature request posted here has not been added, doesn't mean we have ignored it. It maybe something we do at a later date.

Here's an example of asking nice, but being ignored by CC:

Scott, isn't that the same thing? I bought it before it was released. You can call it whatever you want, but the result is the same.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
