I'd imagine the only way to get round the free updates for life would be to have a new product. I wouldn't think that it is possible to draw a line in the sand and say, " All new SCC purchases from here on in will be subject to paid updates". That said, if there was a new Super SCC published, someone might say that the previous version was sold under false pretences as it promised future updated facilities which have not come to fruition and want their money back! Arghh!!! Dread to think... Scotty takes big gulp of breath and wipes perspiration from sweaty brow! Simplest way would be a new product with very minimal opening offer upgrade fo $5!

There's definitely a good point right there on the end. Might be a way to bring people from the current to the new by charging everyone a small $5 fee (only those that have the Pro versions that is of SCC and SCD) to change over to the new software. This giving CC a way to transfer everyone to the new software so that there can be charges for upgrades in the future.

To me this would work ONLY if the transfer to the new software would "already" contain the features that the people have been already waiting for such as:

Coupons (asked both for single and expiring setups)
Digital Upload
Customization text inclusion

Those are the 3 main ones, there's a few others that would also be nice to have, but those are the main 3 that were asked for.

So... Woody has an idea there Scott. Create a new program to replace the cart software. Have it include all the current features of SCC/SCD setups and the 3 listed above. Charge those that already own both the SCCP and SCDP a $5 fee to upgrade to the new software. Now from here you charge yearly fees to upgrade or whatever.... not a bad idea Woody. People will still get pissed off because of the no more upgrades, but at least they would get the features they've been waiting for... interesting concept :)

We are still taking all this in and deciding on the best approach to make here as it is not an easy decision. If we do decide to release an update with those features, a paid upgrade most likely will be required simply because of the amount of time/effort and resources it would take. However, we certainly will make sure to take care of existing customers who own the software.

With the release of all our new responsive programs, we will need to create the software from scratch to take advantages of that new technology and that would be a good time to address this topic.

Stay tuned.... ;)

To create the software from scratch is a time-consuming process. The above statement tells me the updates you were planning to work on this month are "minor" (removing support for Google Checkout/Wallet). It also tells me you have no plans, nor have had any scheduled plans, to add new features (especially those requested by several customers) anytime soon. Especially if a complete re-write of the program is needed.

I'm sorry, guys, but in my opinion you've dropped the ball big time. I've spent a little more than $250 for your shopping cart software (and designer program) in the past few years and have a product I no longer use because you turned your attention to other ideas and projects and let SCC decay and all but die.

I would rather pay another payment and get the requested features plus the responsive layout. I'm  with that.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
