Do I need to keep my current host?

OK, this may be a silly question but I figure if I don't ask I won't know. I have a .com.au website which I have pointed to my free s-drive account (via changing 'A' record and CName). The hosting invoice for this site is due in another few days and I wondered if I actually needed it, seeing as I have the s-drive account. The domain name would still be registered as that isn't due for renewal for another year.

You can keep it or let it go. Your choice. The S-Drive FREE account is limited in some of the things you can do, but you can always upgrade to a paid subscription. Or, in the unlikely event, if it doesn't work out you can always purchase hosting again.

Thanks for your response :) I guess what I was asking was if the current 'host' was actually doing anything - so that if I dropped them whether the website would still be there under the .com.au name (rather than the coffeecup name) exactly as it is now. Seems silly to be paying them if they actually aren't doing anything (as the site is pointed away from them).

Your DOMAIN name should be separate from the hosting. As long as the domain name is paid for and registered it may be hosted with anyone. You say you have changed the records to reflect the S-Drive account you now have, so you should be okay. It will take a day or two for the records to update. Once they do then your previous host will have no affect on your domain. If your domain is with the same company as your host you may just want to check with them to make sure they don't link the two. Different hosting companies do different things.

Thanks - they're with the same company so I will double check with them but I think it should be fine. Thanks for the reassurance!
