Can't see HTML file posted and...

OK, apparently S-drive works differently than what I have read has led me to believe. W-a-a-a-y back last February, I was asked to try the S-Drive beta, which I did, creating a test "blog post." That was basically where I left things, until after the recent "RTM(??)," and in fact until yesterday, when I decided to try the method suggested in your Thursday, 5 Jan. email with subject "[S-Drive Academy] #1: Your Website on S-Drive in 3 Steps."

I created a quick "Hello, World!" page in XHTML 1.0 Transitional, saved it as "index.html," then uploaded it to my S-Drive "site" folder using Direct FTP. Then, just as a test, I uploaded another file from a local folder to the S-Drive "site" folder. All good, so far.

However, despite the fact that I can see both files in the remote folder in Direct FTP, and that I can see them listed in the "Site" tab when logged in to my account at CC, I can see neither when attempting to access via http://paladin.coffeecup.com. Theoretically, index.html should display by default when that address is entered. And if I enter the absolute URL to either file, http://paladin.coffeecup.com/index.html or http://paladin.coffeecup.com/jump-menu-test.html, then either should display. Neither one does, and in fact, both yield 404 errors. As stated, the files are both visible in Direct FTP, and at the Web site under the Site tab of my account.

Instead, when you go to http://paladin.coffeecup.com/, what you do see is that initial "blog post" I made last February! Note that this post, whatever format it might be in, does NOT appear in Direct FTP, and that brings up another question—just where the blazes IS my site root?

While trying to test all of this, I set up the folder (I thought) as a server in FileZilla, to see if the files appeared there, too. Here's what I got when I tried to connect:

Error: Could not connect to server
Status: Resolving address of paladin.coffeecup.com
Status: Connection attempt failed with "EAI_NODATA - No address associated with nodename".

Hmm... OK, so how about Expression Web? I thought that I might like to publish from there sometime, so I set up ftp://paladin.coffeecup.com as a Publishing Destination in EW, then tried to connect. No joy there, either.

So, why can't I see pages that are clearly in my site folder? Why can I see a post I created a year ago, but which does not appear in my site folder? How can I access my S-Drive from elsewhere than Direct FTP or the Coffeecup site? Why does only "S-Drive" appear as the nickname in Direct FTP, with the "Server:" field not even visible(!)? Where is there to be found detailed documentation on S-Drive, so that those of us with administrative tools and experience can read up on it? Thank you.

cheers,
scott

According to how you setup your settings at http://www.coffeecup.com/sdrive/dashboa … /settings/ you have your Stream showing as your default page. Your site is actually at http://paladin.coffeecup.com/site/ If you want your site to be shown by default, change the option Show my "Stream" as my home page to Show my "Site" as my home page.

You can also only connect to S-Drive with CoffeeCup programs, so that means only Direct FTP or Free FTP if you want to use FTP. Other programs that also can connect to S-Drive are Visual Site Designer, Web Form Builder and Shopping Cart Creator.

Pretty simple right? ;)

We have loads of information on S-Drive here at http://www.coffeecup.com/search/?cx=016 … ve&sa= or just by going to www.coffeecup.com/sdrive

Yep, if you know that stuff. ;-)

It's been since last February since I even looked at S-Drive. As I said in my previous msg, just that one "blog post" even then.

I guess this will be kinda handy for posting example files. I spend a good deal of time helping others in Webdev forums, particularly the EW forum, so having a scratchpad site for example files will be nice. I've been using CC products since the turn of the millennium (although I've moved along from the editor), and this is a nice little bonus to recommend to others to send them here. Who knows, maybe they'll buy something... ;-)
