Can't set colour/size/background -...

Morning all.

I'm working on a site with 13 pages. 7 breakpoints in those pages.

There's some hidden elements in a menu that show in certain screen sizes (so some swapping of words as things shrink - 9 menu items in total with 4 pairs that swap). 3 colours used for text including menu and other links.

Most text is the same size, most headings are the once size, but there are other sizes. 3 heading classes, 3 paragraphs, - but somehow I have wound up with 39 text classes even though only 10 are used (9 for the menu, 1 for a copyright note on the bottom of a couple of the pages). Is there a way in RLM to remove unused classes?

All of a sudden I cannot set a heading to be centered, nor alter the colour or background of the heading. I can't alter margins either. I mean they show as I want them to in RLM, but if I either bring them up in a browser preview (Firefox or IE thus far) or export and open in a browser, nothing.

I have tried re-starting the machine to make sure there wasn't some issue there, as I had been working on the site for a few hours. It is a Core I-7 with 8G Ram, with only Firefox (except when I tested IE) and RLM open (running in Win7 - native, no VM or WINE)

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

You use the display:none on the properties tab each element that you want to hide at a break point.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

I'm quite familiar with that - as I said some hidden elements that swap on certain sizes.

The problem is that settings in RLM aren't being carried over to the resulting page, eg I change "heading 4" to be green text on a black background at a font size of 14, when I preview the file or export it, "heading 4" will still be exactly the same settings as the default. It shows correctly in RLM, even with changes across breakpoints, but it doesn't change in either browser previews or after exporting. Affects things like centering and background colours of text as well, as mentioned in my first message.

It does seem to be this specific to this specific machine only though. I tried the same file on my other machine (which is a much lower spec machine but still running Win 7) and things work fine.

Thanks,
David

Make sure you are to the right of the breakpoint, and that you don't have a breakpoint hidden by the properties panel. Spent way too many hours trying it fix that before I figured it out.

Angela has a great point. You can remove a hidden break point by following these instructions.

The problem has resolved itself. Don't ask me what changed. I made a screen recording to demonstrate the issue, but then decided to remove a couple of elements to protect my customer's privacy. I re-did the recording only the issue would not show. As I was only using a preview I reverted to the original (file -> revert to saved project) to re-create the video showing the full file as I'd obviously deleted enough (even though only 1 heading and a couple of text boxes of <20 characters each) to make it work properly.

However, that process has "unstuck" whatever was causing the problem. I may try a file recovery to see if I can get the original video file back.

For the record, I'll try to state it a bit more simply as you're answering things different to the question/problem. I do appreciate your attempts to help, don't get me wrong there :)

I was simply unable to set any more styles. Say for example I wanted to change the background of some text (static text that is always visible, no hidden elements or anything like that), well I could change it in RLM and have the change display in RLM but it would not show in my browser previews. No matter what changes I made to the text, it would not show. I could change colour, add borders, change size, font, background, whatever - in the preview (and with exporting) it would always go either to the RLM default for a new element or to the previously saved style for something already on the pages.

This only affected one file and only on one machine. And while I did a "revert to saved" which should not have altered the original file at all (it still has the appropriate date/time), something has changed as I can restart RLM and probably the computer and not be able to get the problem to recur. Perhaps something stuck in a cache or other similar file?

Seems to be fixed though. I fixed it by deleting something, then previewing, then reverting (to undo the deleting).

Thanks for the help though - which did help because I would still have an issue if not for trying to create a screen capture to show the issue :)

Hard to say for sure without seeing the actual site (and CSS files) and knowing what browsers/versions you're using, but it sounds like a CSS conflict. There isn't a styles limit, but maybe some of your styles are being over-ridden by others?
