i have a site

then on client page i want to put thumbnails on that page.

Where do i type:

[do i create an html box for this code]

and then where do i place the images? in the website folder or in the files folder inside the website folder.

i am very slow when i comes to this. still learning.

In the HTML Editor, all of that would be a single line of code that you would enter and use styles to position it where you want the thumbnail. I would make a change to that code to have an image directory, and upload all my images to that image directory.

In the Visual Site Designer, you use the insert html tool, and VSD will upload the images where VSD keeps images.
