Well, there must be a reason for it, otherwise everyone would share the same problem. It's more of a test of our patience and troubleshooting skills. ;) Hmm...is there a consistent, guaranteed crash that we could try to replicate? "Click here, type this, click here & crash." Oh wait, yours doesn't crash, it just sits unresponsive for a while, correct? So, there's no real error box of any kind, you just can't click on anything or get an hourglass for a matter of seconds or minutes?

That's right, but while it is doing this it stops me from carrying on with my work, and it is really going on for far too long.
(A minimum of 45 seconds every time a perform a different action).

Yeah, that's not right. Shouldn't be a firewall issue since the actions performed are internal at the time, unless a realtime antivirus were scanning at each save, but even that shouldn't cause such a slowdown. Are there any of the pages created online? That's about the only thing we could view remotely, but that'd only help if there were certain code involved that could trigger the slowdown.

If you end up getting no resolution in the forums, I'd strongly suggest contacting CC directly either through the online form in the Contact Us page or calling them. :|

I have done that, I'm afraid, but I did not get a satisfactory answer there either.
They were very surprised at this error and had no idea where it could come from.
I tried all their suggestions but none worked, unfortunately.

I know it can get frustrating when you can't get something working. Sometimes we can just exhaust all options of troubleshooting.

Schocking indeed.
I'd really rather not have to do that.
I also forgot to mention: when I open CC, it takes quite some time to open, and the same when I open a file and try to preview it.

Do you have more than one drive on your computer? If so, maybe try to install CC editor on another hard drive.

Just a guess here, but it might be a Windows registry problem. The computer may be getting confused with other installs of the same program in the registry, and taking too long to decide what to do about it. You said somewhere that after an install, it ran ok for a short time? Then it went bad again. Be careful when snooping in the registry...bad things can happen. Also, there should be a log file that you can check...either event viewer or performance log might be able to give a clue to what and why this happens.

I have heard of something similar to this happening with other applications, and I am not refering to Coffeecup software especially CC Html Editor, it can happen with anything.

I had a similar problem many moons ago with a paid for Antispyware scanner.

Here is what I did to cure it.

First uninstall HTML Editor
Second go into Programme Files and remove the HTML Editor Folder
Third Click the 'Start' button, click 'Run' and type this:-

%temp%

Click 'OK'
Select every file and delete them, there may be a couple of 'dat' files you cannot delet but that is fine.

Next open Windows Explorer and go to Windows/Prefetch folder
Delete every file in the folder, you might want to save a copy before you delete them.............

When you have deleted them, re-boot your pc.
Next install HTML Editor again and see what happens.

Thank you for your help.
You are not going to believe this (To be quite honest, I don't think I do).

I did exactly as you told me, and after re-installing the HTML Editor I first rebooted.

After the reboot I started the Editor, and I could not believe my luck, it worked good as gold.

I just wanted to make sure (as I had that feeling in the back of my head), so I closed the editor and then started it up again.

I bet you guessed it, BACK TO SQUARE ONE.
Exactly the same problem I had before was occurring.

I have just about had it with this piece of ... erm.. software.
(I have been using it for many years, but I think it is time to start looking elsewhere).

PS. I also noticed there are .adu and .adl files in the Coffeecup folder.
Is that normal, them being there, what are they, could they have something to do with anything?

Strange, that normally works and if it woked the first time it should work the second so it is not the software.

It sounds a lot like a memmory issue to me, you have not by any chance changed the settings of your Virual Memory Paging File.

This should ideally be set to Let Windows choose the best settings.

I see .adu files so they are fine as is the .adl

I will have a think about this.
