VSD and General HTML Editor Issues

I just purchased the entire suite of products offered by CoffeeCup and I am extremely frustrated! I'm into my 4th hour of trying to use VSD and even after following numerous tutorials from YouTube and doing EXACTLY the same things they are doing, I still get error messages when I try to bring in PNG files! So I change the format to JPG and I get an error msg saying my computer does not have enough memory to read the file and I need to reboot! So I reboot and reload everything only to receive the same error messages when attempting to add a very simple button.

OK, no problem, I'll switch over to the HTML Editor. This time I post the actual HTML code for my PNG button and when I do a Preview, I get the dreaded 'RED X' where the file should be! Can I find any real or useful help? NO!

After all the research and due diligence I did before making this purchase, I wish I would have had access to the user forums. There seems to be a ton of what I would consider rudimentary types of issues with these programs. I'm now feeling like I wish I would have saved my money and put it towards Dreamweaver! I'm extremely frustrated with these products so far!

You may want to click on profile and change your forum name to something other than your email address. Spam bots are always looking for valid email addresses.

"I wish I would have had access to the user forums" these forums are not closed, and anyone can visit and post unless they are banned for things like spamming the forum.

As for the red x, that means the program did not find the image exactly where it expected. I get that all the time because of the way I keep images on my computer and on the web.

If you have an image and you upload it to your site, you can use the full address to see the image. If you use a folder on your site named images to keep all your images in one place, you could use code in the HTML editor that looks like this: <img src="http://www.yoursite.com/imgages/something.png" title="my photo" alt="my photo" width="640" height="480">

That will show up in your preview.

You say you could not find any help. Did you press F1 to open the help files? Using the HTML editor, there are links to the CoffeeCup Support, and W3Schools tutorial online.

Of course, now that you have found the forums, there are members that live all around the world, and many are on this forum frequently, you can ask questions here. We do not know your level of HTML coding experience, so some of the questions that are asked may seem simple to someone with lots of knowledge, and complicated to those just starting. If you are having a problem with the programs themselves (like a program crash) you can ask here for help, and frequently someone will know the solution.

Most everyone here uses the CoffeeCup software, but maybe not all of the programs (I have VSD, but seldom use it). So give us enough information, and we will try to help you get the programs working.

Bill,

Thank you for your reply and your advice. I will try these additional tips and see if I can get this resolved. I read in a another post that PNG support would not be ready until later this summer. I certainly would not have made my purchase at this time had I known this was the case since PNG files are pretty much all I use. I'm fairly experienced at web development but these programs are not as intuitive as I had originally thought. I think it may be time to call it a night. I've spent many hours tonight trying to get things figured out and my mind is fried right now.

At any rate, I will try your approach to see if I have better success.

Thanks again for your help.

If you are using .png images, you have not bought the CC lot in vain. I guess you have read the 'small print' where they say that updates are free for life! :)

Just use the HTML Editor while waiting for the new update of VSD. And as to intuitivity, it always takes a bit of time to get used to a new programme when you are coming from another one of the same kind. I came to CC from 1st Page (Evrsoft), and it took me some 10 days before I was really familiar with the HTML Editor. And I have had some attempts over the years of trying to master both FrontPage and Dreamweaver, but I have always given up and gone back to CoffeeCup.
Ha en riktig god dag!
