Thread creation error - Memory leak?

Hi,
I've been using HTML Editor 2010 se build 369 since it was available and have started having a strange issue that sort of looks like a memory leak. I'm the type to leave the PC 24X7 and same with HTML editor.

Since installing this build i have had an issue where two or three times a day HTML Editor will die and send a report to microsoft. Right before it happens i get a windows stlye alert box in HTML Editor that says:

Thread creation error. Not enough resources to .... (can't remember the rest).

I close that pop up and HTML editor dies and does the Dr. Watson thing.

Anyone else having issues like this? Any fixes?

Thanks in advance.

Is your computer memory cranking under the weight of too much work? Just wondered if a quick cleanup might help.

H Janys,
I don't think so. I left the PC running last night with outlook, firefox and HTML editor running. HTML editor had no files open in it actually and i awoke to the same problem today.

Adam, which Windows OS are you running?
And a bit more info about your system, such as RAM amd CPU would be useful.

If your PC is doing the Dr Watson thing, it is definitely time to upgrade to a PC made recently. :D

My wife never turns off her laptop. Sometimes the printer service fails from what I believe to be a memory leak. I'll tell you what I tell her. It's OK to turn off the computer once a day. :)

Hi Tom,
unfortunately it crashes several times a day even after reboots. (The Dr. Watson terminology is just an indication of my age :-). I also run Adobe CS4 and leave apps up from that for extended periods of time and they don't crash, and if anything hogs memory it's them.

Someone else had asked about the PC:

Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3
Pentium 4 2.4GHz
2 Gig Ram.

HTML Editor will crash even if it's the only app running and there's plenty of free ram.

Ha, good. I was afraid you were still using Win98. I guess that just shows my age, as well. :D

Adam, try this:

Uninstall the current version from your computer. You could even download a little programme called Crap cleaner from piriform.com and run it on your machine. Reboot. Then get a new download of the HTML editor and install it.

And BTW, if you have an antivirus or firewall active, close them for the duration of the download.

You have CS4 installed on the same machine. It is very likely an issue with Adobe's Version Cue app, it doesn't like to play nice with others. It was dropped from CS5.

Additionally, unless you have server class hardware (since you are still running XP I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you aren't), your computer simply wasn't designed to run all the time. Additionally, since most computers are connected to the internet constantly with broadband. Leaving your machine on for prolonged periods while not in use leaves you open to a potential attack. You can and should do whatever you want but please be aware that there is absolutely no upside to leaving your computers running for prolonged periods when not in use.
