I believe there's now a setting in preferences to turn it off/on...

With the update to the latest version of the HTML Editor, the Visual Editor has been turned off by default. We did this to provide the best possible user experience. But don't fret -- this is a very easy thing to turn back on. To re-enable the Visual Editor, launch the Editor and go to the Tools > Preferences > General tab. Once there, uncheck the Hide Visual tab option. That's it!
I would also suggest taking a few moments to look over all the other new options in the preferences. We added loads of new goodies!

Unable to download update version:
1. First attempt, very long time to start download, then very slow download until 50%, whereupon download stopped, and stayed stopped for perhaps thirty minutes.
2. Removed first attempt a while later, started new download; this proceeded at a "reasonable" speed, nearly to the limit of my 150MB dsl line. However, as soon as download reached the 50% mark, it stopped, and remained stopped until I put it out of its misery.
3. Third attempt: Slow to start downloading, then fast until the 50% mark. At that point, the download immediately dropped to 0 bps, and stayed there for ten minutes or so, whereupon I deleted it.

I too had installation issues - I couldn't automatically uninstall the old version as the install.log file could not be located. Manually removing it took some time but I got it done. Installing the new one in Vista I too got the 'visual tab disabled' message due to the Microsoft security patch or some such thing. It doesn't matter as I don't use the visual side anyway (and in my opinion that should be kept for Visual Site Designer anyway rather than the HTML editor, but that's just me).
The new version looks great but what happened to all the snippets? I might be mistaken, but I thought there were many more useful snippets than this before. The ones left are not that usable for me whereas the previous ones were quite useful. I might reinstall the old version and see if I can't copy them across somehow.
@ David above.
I would uninstall everything (saving any work in the working folders first) the reinstall the older version, then uninstall it properly, the install the new version. This will keep things nicely cleaned up.
The new version looks good but only time and usage will tell as to how stable and usable it is. I look forward to working on some of my files with it to test it out.
My 2 cents
Dave.

Thanks to all.
I think I may have resolved the issue of my failure to uninstall version 2008 first.
If anyone is interested in how I did it, please see the thread I created today whose name begins "Failure to Uninstall...." (I am new to forums, and I thought I had posted this in the wrong location.)
Thank you, and keep up the good work.

I've been searching for instructions about installing the software update(s) and not finding per se. I see that it requires uninstalling previous version and backing up Working directory files.
I don't use the default working directory just for that reason, but i am rusty on some things and have one BIG question: Will my server upload configurations be automatically carried over to the new versions? Am I not going to lose them by uninstalling the old software? (Please say "not"; I can't stand to redo them all.)
Thanks for your help here. I really hate upgrading, although I love to get new software.

It is also possible the visual tab is disabled due to the Windows security patch clashing with the software issue - it is well-mentioned in the forums here.
@John
Yes, the server was most likely choked. It took a few stabs before I got a download slot - with many millions all receiving update invitations at the same time it is no wonder things slowed down a bit.
As for myself, after using this on and off during the day there are a few issues. The dialogue reminding me that the visual tab is disabled because of the security patch message comes up every time I start the software. It seems that the only way to get rid of this error is to uninstall the Windows update that causes it. I might be thick but not a moron, I only need to be told this once. Most annoying.
I am also seeing screen artifacts that happen when 'show all characters' is enabled, which I use. Something weird in the rendering somewhere. Refer to the image below for what I mean (highlighted by the red circles - small black dots). It doesn't look like much but with a page full of code this does have a visual impact.

Aside from these small issues, I am liking it so far.

Where has the "quick link to relative file" and "link to open file" gone?
no problem download or installing, did uninstall previous ver. first.
but where are all the snippets?
can I copy them from the previous version of CC

I remember trying to do this one other time and not being able to. I might reinstall the older version and try it but from memory it was unsuccessful. The only way I could do it was cut and paste old to new, a laborious and ultimately aborted process.
