Tab stops - Page 1

Hi everybody,

This ought to be a simple one, although my cumulative brain injuries have made it complex.

The issue:

I like to indent while I fool around, just four spaces per indent. This is what I mean:

<head>
….<div>
……..<blah blah>
……..</blah blah>
….</div>
</head>

I can’t seem to get the process though. In Tools > Preferences > Customization > Modify Options there are User Controls for Tab Columns and Tab Stops.

It seems that whatever I put in these controls… the page editor continues to do what it wants, which is skip about 6 spaces. If I use the backspace key, I have to backspace 6 times. There doesn’t seem to be a tab kind of action at all. I have even changed those controls and then exited the program thinking it was a start up requirement.

How to I properly change these controls?

Many thanks

Maybe this.:)

Tab Stop
Is the amount the cursor will move when you hit the tab key.
Tab Columns
Is the hard amount for a tab stop. Set your tab stop to 1 then set columns to what you would need. 10 20 30 40 etc.

An interesting find there Paul, I just went through the settings and can find no setting at all for the number of spaces a tab should move, only how many it should move back when hitting backspace which is what the Tab Stops setting does. That setting says go X number of spaces back when hitting the back button and I see no other thing it does. I have not seen any effect of the Tab Columns at all so not sure exactly what that setting should do. I browsed through every article on the CC Knowledge Base too and nothing there either. I could swear we were able to customize this before, but it's 8 spaces on my copy of HTML Editor rather than 6 which is definitely way too many.

Anyone else have any ideas on this?

You don't have a tab stop entry?

Hi Eric,

I'm with Jo Ann.

I read your original response to MunMan in June 2011 ), so this is the same question he was asking. However, trying to modify as you suggested doesn’t do anything operational. The control boxes retain the new values entered, but there is no functional change to how the Editor behaves. Although it has been almost two years since then, and I am using a fresh 2-week old update this omission continues. Perhaps I grabbed the wrong version… I have version 12.7 build 456.

If I am using the most current revision, I'm guessing the program manager and writers just missed these functions prior to releasing the new build and heading out for cool drinks. (that’s what I do when I finish a project) That sort of thing can happen in any serious endeavour, witness Microsoft.
I am surprised that the project manager and his writers haven't noticed any screaming. I did a search on "Indent" in this forum and there was moaning over this issue in May 2011.

I`ve also noticed while chasing this subject, that the Tool Bar "View" > "Views" doesn't work either. I have no idea what any of those choices are offering because there are no operational changes.
Neither "Icons" or "Shift+Control+F4" or the other 4 possibilites seem to do anything.

Terrific community this CC gang. I am really impressed with how the members show enthusiasm.

Good for you all

If I set a tab stop of 20 it moves 20. If I set the tab columns it uses the columns then reverts to tab stop beyond the columns. That views thing was suppose to be fixed a few versions back I think.
