Hello
I use HTML Editor v12 build 375, and I really think it is a fantastic piece of software.
I use it to help me create a correctly formatted Kindle ebook that I have written, and from checking the final ebook on my Kindle, html and css validation service, no problem and no errors.

What I would like and it is something that I have probably missed is this:

When editing my manuscript, by adding html or css, if I have had to save then close the file, can i get the file to open on the last line of code that I had saved and finished editing or writing?

At the moment I have to write down what line I finished on, then scroll to it.

Is there a way maybe to add a marker, or something that would help the file open up on the section of code that I had saved and finished on.

Kind regards
Ian

Hiya Ian,

Have you played with the Bookmarks at all yet? There are only 10 of them I think, but that might be what you need to use. You're on a pretty old version (we're on 12.5 and soon to be 12.6 already) which has a lot more features. You may not need them, but when the next version comes out 12.6 I would highly suggest you update. If you use the Visual Tab though, stay put as that is not in the new versions anymore.

Check out the bookmarks and see if that is what you need. :)

I just checked it out to see how it worked so here's the basics if they work the same in that version:

1. Put your cursor on the line you want to bookmark

2. Go to the Documents menu at the top and choose "Set Bookmark" from the dropdown and then choose which number you want to save.

That's it, now when you load that page next time go to that menu again and choose "Go to Bookmark" and choose which number and there you go!

How cool is that?! :)

Thanks for that
You hit the nail right on the head. It worked.

Oops! I am using a version that is slightly old. If it works...

I really do like the Preview button, as that helps me to see how my manuscript looks before loading onto the Kindle.

Thanks for that advice. Hopefully v12.6 will have something like that.

I have to say thanks to the Coffeecup crew. They have made a really great and easy to use program that simply works!

It works for me, and after all the coding, my manuscript looks the way I want it to look on the Kindle.
Again, thanks for answering my question.

You're quite welcome Ian,

Also, just to clarify the Preview thing, what I was talking about is the Visual Designing tab not the preview. The Preview tab has been removed also, but.... it has been replaced with a detached preview window that you can move around anywhere you like such as a 2nd monitor to see your changes as you type them.

New features coming soon give you the ability to click on the code and have it highlight the appropriate element on the Preview windows, and visa versa it will do the same if you click on the Preview windows and takes you to the code. This is coming in the new release very soon so stay tuned and wait for that one as it fixes a bunch of little pesky bugs.

Enjoy your new Bookmarks toy and watch for the release of the next version as it will definitely be worth updating the program (won't be any cost for this either it's an update not a new program)

Also, should you find that you update and can't stand it, you can always go back to 12 as it has a link in the download file to get back to that version.

I think you'll love the new version though, I've been testing it with a small group and it's quite feature packed and darn near ready to be released :)

Thanks for the update, I will download it. I really like the detachable preview window, as I use two monitors, that will be awesome.
The ebook is out and I have to say, Coffecup's HTML editor did me proud.
I know it's bragging, but the ebook looks great and everything works!
I am most chuffed with the clickable Table of Contents.
No errors in HTML or CSS when I had them validated using W3C Validation service.
So, 5 stars and a massive thumbs up for the HTML Editor
Thanks again

That is awesome to hear Ian, and that new update is not far away now, we're narrowing down I am "hoping" the last set of bugs, but one can never tell till it happens. We're trying very hard as testers to get a nice clean version released so it will be as bug free as we can test it hehe. We've broken it so many times I think the poor CC Devs are drinking around the clock LOL. It will be great when it's released though :)

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
