I expected this to spell check while I type (in the Visual mode), but this appears not to be the case in my experience so far (new user). Can someone explain this mode? It sounds like something I would like to use but I don't understand it.

Not sure why the auto spell check doesn't work in Visual Mode... I do know that there aren't many users that actually use VM of the HTML Editor, and there has been talk about possibly letting it die off (one reason you find it so difficult to activate it). It has never played nicely when people try to switch back and forth between it and Coding Mode, and has caused a bit of a stink. I personally used to use it to get the basic layout work done, then would switch to Coding Mode and finish off the page (using preview to check up on my work), I would have to tweak on some positioning after the switch, but never switched back to VM so it wasn't too bad. Lately, I just strictly stay in CM or use Visual Site Designer. You might want to give that program a try if you haven't already and are more interested in more of a WYSIWYG program.
