Old Snippets Lost with New HTML...

Hi.... Yesterday, when Coffee Cup HTML Editor kept failing on me out of the blue, I came to the site and saw I was due an upgrade. So I downloaded and installed it, and I've lost all my previous customizations! All my toolbar customizations were gone, which wasn't a big deal; I've already fixed that.

But worse, I had saved tons of code snippets and they no longer appear in my Snippets tab. Is there anyway to retrieve those old snippet files?

Sure hope someone can help me! :(

Thanks,
Kathi

If you go to the CoffeeCup folder... mine is in my computer > programs > CoffeeCup Software... you should find a snippets folder in there. Just check if your old ones are hidden inside. I know that mine came through ok with the upgrade, and I have some pretty strange snippets. Yours might still be in there.

They're not there, Janys. That's my problem. All that is in that Snippets folder are all the new ones that came with this upgrade. While there are some cool new ones in there, I really didn't want to lose all my old ones that I use ALL the time. There's no secret location?

Sadly,

If you chose the backup the replaced files when you upgraded there might be a way, but I haven't done it, I suggest a support ticket and the developers will be able to give you the inns and outs of dealing withe these back up files.

One thing I do when ever I update the HTML Editor (and most programs that allow me to create my own personal scripts or changes in them) is to find out where they are and copy that file/folder/etc. to a safe place before upgrading. You can find the Snippets directory in the Program Files\Coffeecup directory:

C:\Program Files\CoffeeCup Software\Snippets

Although this may not help you now if you lost them already, hopefully it will help you in the future. Same with the MarkUp file. I will most likely back that up if I make any changes to it at any point so I don't lose that also. Just a suggestion for future reference :)

Why would a program update change user settings? It definitely should not.
CoffeeCup... Yeah, they are the best!

Should and Do are unfortunately not always cohesive Tom lol. And the HTML Editor is a prime example of that. Any time you upgrade the HTML Editor you lose all of your personal settings (not always the directories though like the Snippets), such as Toolbar setups and most time tag color preferences etc.

I too wish it didnt' do this, I really hate having to setup my toolbars all over again every time I update and change any color coding I've done in the preferences again. Very irritating to say the least, but that's how it is and they are definitely aware of it and have said that this is what it does. So... onward we go I guess lol.

As for the Snippets, I too have lost them a couple times, hence why I back them up now before upgrading :)

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
