Form Items with the Visual Editor

I am a new users threading his way through the various idiosyncracies of o the HTML Editor.

1) When I turned on the the Visual Editor I found I can play with the form objects, but not edit them;
2) Nor can I use Form Items to insert items in the Visual Editor, but have to go back to the Code Editor.
3) When I go back to the Code Editor, I am never on the item I was editting, but have to search for it.

The program seems to be superior in most ways over Dreamweaver, but these items are galling. Did I not set something up correctly?

Hi Frank, I never use the visual mode of the HTML Editor, so I'm not sure what you can do with form elements. BUT, you are not supposed to switch between the code mode and the visual one. That is like asking for trouble, as the code gets modified each time. Better stick to one of them. If you prefer the visual mode and can't edit the forms, then I think you will like the CoffeeCup Form builder, which is due to be launched in a new version quite soon. Well worth every penny.
Ha en riktig god dag!

Dang, Wish I had know that before I brought the entire package with the old Web Form Builder.

And I guess the Web Form Build works with XML files and not HMTL files, so I cannot import into the Form builder and work from there.

Kinda of disappointed, but that is why I bought one for myself before company wide.

Hiya Frank,

The new Form Builder, due to come out very soon will be an HTML/CSS form builder and not Flash. If you just purchased it I would find out if that purchase includes the move to the new Form Builder or not, and if not then you should check out the special that is going on for those that own the Flash Form Builder to upgrade to the HTML one. Will definitely be worth it as Inger already mentioned.

As for the HTML Editor, I've used it for over a decade now and I have yet to be disappointed. Yes there are things that are not quite as useful as something like Dreamweaver, but then you don't pay $400 for it either so considering there are only a few things that the HTML Editor is lacking, it's very very good and definitely not a waste of your money at all when compared to the price of Dreamweaver.

I guess I am wondering why you didn't Trial the programs before you decided to buy them so you would know what to expect. I believe every program has a Trial version that runs from a week to a month depending on the program which gives you plenty of time to check them out and make sure they are what you want. The Trial versions are all full featured and fully operational (might be a couple things turned off on a couple of them, but not much at all) and I'd fully suggest you do that with anything else you're thinking you might need before you decide to buy it.

Personally I think a $50.00 investment into HTML Editor is a lot more worth it than $400.00 for Dreamweaver, especially since you're looking for a company wide setup.

The other thing I'd suggest is checking out the Visual Site Designer if you're really wanting to work with a WYSIWYG system. Not only can you do it visually, but it has the setup for adding code for things like HTML, JAVA, PHP etc. so you can use the HTML Editor you already purchase to create things like Tables and Menus (CSS Menu Maker in HTML Editor is pretty slick) and then insert them into the Visual Site Designer pages. No you can't work with the code in VSD, but from what I hear, you don't really need to, it's a full featured visual designer. Take a trial run and see if that's what you really were looking for.

Either way good luck on what you decide to do.

In the trial version I could not find the Visual Editor, one reason I bought before I could fully test. Several of the products here seem to have some features disabled in the demo versions.

Understand, the Dreamweaver Visual Editor / HTML Editor is no great shakes, either. I grew to truly hate it. Just guess I was hoping to find a product where I could do both for real. Even my office HTML "experts", who disdain editors and work in plain text, spend an inordinate amount of time making pages that actually work (as a boss, I have had many "week" jobs take 3-4 weeks).

When I have RAD systems like Visual Foxpro and now Alpha Five, it is very hard to see why HTML RAD systems are still in the stone age.

Nope, they are ALL Fully Functional. The Visual Tab is made a bit harder to find than it used to be, to prevent folks from trying to switch back and forth... You really have to want to do it, but then you will see the mess that it causes.
