I am so hoping there is a way you can assign a hot-key for file uploads as for me, the file upload button has now become unusable in the latest version. If not, how do I reinstate the previous version of the HTML Editor?

Sorry, should have clarified that issue with the file upload button is down to the extra level of navigation added to accomodate S-Drive.

Oh is that what that was added for? I was wondering as I too find it inconvenient to have to add that extra step to upload now.

How would you invision a hot key working? When you configure an FTP account, you can have an unlimited amount of bookmarks for that server. Do you want a hotkey for each possible folder or only for the document root?

If you can outline a process you would like to take to accomplish the task, I will see if I can get it in the software. Remember, keep it simple. ;)

bookmarks are possible in the HTML Editor? *goes to check this out*

I think what we're saying is the added step to upload a file is just inconvenient. Before we could just right click the file name on the tree and choose Upload this File (or whatever it was named, don't have it open now), but now we have to choose Upload and then move to the right to choose a 2nd option for each file or group of files we do this with (which at times can be a pain in the butt since mousing loves to move faster sometimes than the menu does and closes it on you etc.).

If we could highlight the file(s) we want to upload and then just hit a keybinding shortcut key to activate it it would save the right clicks and move overs.

Thanks for the feedback Scott.

In my simple mind, I basically just need a one-click button that uploads the file highlighted in the file manager, to my server. Essentially it will do exactly the same thing as the current process of...

UPLOAD >>> FTP UPLOAD >>> UPLOAD SELECTED FILE

It only becomes active if there are files/folders highlighted in the manager below so there's no risk of accidentally uploading an entire project (as there even was with the previous version).

I've attached a rather crude image showing what I had in mind.

I now hope it's not just me that would see something like this as a Godsend!

Ok, so when you said hot-key, I was thinking something like F12.

Since you can have multiple locations that you can upload to your server, would you want that upload button to always upload to the document root? This means if you select an image, it would then go into the root folder.

The more configurable we make it means the more complex and that then leads to more complex menus.

Well I just want what it was before. I'm still not sure why you changed it. Apparently it has something to do with more choices due to S-Drive? But... What I want is:

Right Click the file, choose Upload Selected Files, and it uploads to the same directory it belongs to in the tree, like it always did. I would think the same thing would apply to a Button (which we already have with the Toolbar buttons we can add that, but we can't add it to the toolbar above the file tree for the projects as it's hardcoded). I don't want to have to move my mouse over to the right to the menu that pulls out in order to choose the Upload Selected Files, it's just extra steps.

Keybind would be the same thing, yes a key like F5 or whatever we want to put it on, basically linking that to the "Upload Selected Files" command that is already functional. Have it upload to the same tree setup as it is on our computers, exactly what it used to do and exactly what it does now without having to have the extra steps of the extra menu choices that you added. I'll get some screenshots after supper to give you more details of what we find wrong with the setup now. I know it's minor, but it's still extra steps we have to take that we didn't have to before. :)

I think Jo Ann has pretty much nailed the issue better than I.

I'd be happy with a Function (F) button to do the job if one can be associated. Am I being a bit dumb wondering why the file wouldn't automatically be uploaded to the correct folder (root, image, etc) as per it's position in the file manager?

I'm not sure what the ideal solution is but I can say with all certainty (having used the new version most of yesterday) is that I just can't live with it as it is. Despite having the CS5 version of Dreamweaver on my PC, I've always used and been a huge fan of the HTML Editor. I've been at industry conferences in the past and been almost obsessive with my praise for the HTML Editor and it's ease of use that Dreamweaver just couldn't achieve. It would be an absolutely devastating decision to switch to another HTML editor and one that I would do with a heavy heart but I just can't live with this file upload issue; it really has been a major step backward in the software's usability in my humble opinion.
