Extra tags problem in HTML Editor 2010SE

I just installed the latest version and now have an odd problem: when I open files I was working on in the old version, I get a message saying the file has extra tags of one sort or another that need to be removed. They weren't "extra" in the old version. When I try removing the designated tag, then I get a message that a different tag is "extra" and needs to be removed. What gives? What do I need to do to stop getting these "extra tag" messages?

BTW--the files I'm referring to are NOT part of a HTML Editor 2010SE project, if that makes any difference.

Can you give us some information as to what tags are "extra", possibly your doctype is incomplete and the editor is reading an xml file as html5.

The first message is about extra body tags. There's one highlighted in the code, and I've tried removing it. As soon as that was done, however, I got a message about an extra td tag, again with one highlighted, and with similar results on deleting it. The message also said the tags had to be removed before I could switch to the visual editor. Thing is, I wasn't trying to switch to the visual editor--I'm aware that with this version of the software one should use the Preview tab to see how things look, rather than the Visual tab. Can I just disable the visual tab altogether? And a reminder: in the earlier version of HTML Editor there were no issues at all about extra tags--this same file was fully editable, and showed well in visual editor.

Thanks for the help.

Hiya Deborah,

If you go into your preferences you will find a place where you can hide the visual tab.

Are you able to upload that page you're having problems with so we can see the code and try it ourselves to see what it does for us?

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
