Error in Visual Editor

Hello all,

Not entirely sure what's going on here. I've got a website under construction. I can see the code just fine, along with the preview. But when I attempt to switch to the Visual Editor, the system locks up. I get an hourglass that never goes away, and I'm forced to use Task Manager to cancel Coffee.exe

The only time this seems to happen is when I've added a Flash object to the code. I can preview it, but if I try to go to the visual editor to move the object around (i want it centered on the screen), i can't get there.

HTML Editor 8 build 305
Win XP SP3
4gb ram
3.0 Ghz processor Core 2 Duo

I can upload the file and it seems fine, but i just can't seem to open it in a visual mode. Any help?

A URL to the site would make it more likely that someone will find an answer for you.
Did you build the site in the Code Editor or in the Visual Editor?
As a general suggestion, you're probably better off positioning objects in the Code Editor, rather than in the Visual Editor, and then avoid switching back and forth.

Hiya Richard,

As Per says, don't do both, but let me strengthen his suggestion...

DON'T DO BOTH visual and code editors in HTML Editor. The program is not made to be a Visual "and" Code editor, but built for one or the other. Switching between them messes up your code from one to the other. You need to make a choice which one you want to use and stick with it. Our suggestion is usually to stick with the Code side of the HTML Editor and if you need visual then you should use the Visual Site Designer program instead of the HTML Editor. Hope that makes sense, but the gist of the story is that the Code and Visual parts of HTML Editor do not play nice together. If you need to see your changes use the Preview window rather than the Visual Editor. Pressing F12 will bring that up for you.

About the freezing up part, that I don't know, I had an issue with an outside code I added this past week too, I think it's something wrong in the code or something, not sure to be honest as it didn't happen before, just started recently. Anyways, could be something bad in your code causing it. When it happened to me it made the Preview window pause for almost a half a minute everytime I tried to preview my work and when I took out the flash code it went away... so... maybe it's just something wrong with the code since I do use other flash objects without any problems.

A Link would be a good thing too as Per mentioned, so we can see this flash and see if there's something wrong with it or not.

Thanks Folks.

I realized what I was doing wrong, that is, using the Visual part of HTML editor instead of preview. I prefer to code direct, but I have been known to get lazy ;)

Just tried latest version of HTML Editor (2010)

Code is normally as per following example:

<LI><A title="About Us" href="about/">About Us</A>&nbsp;|

As soon as I go to the visual editor and back to Code Editor

It changes code to

<a title="About Us" href="/C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Owner/Desktop/New%20ADS/about/">About Us</a>&nbsp;|

and refers to local file location (I.e. C:/ etc.

Also it duplicated code

For example, Contact code is added every I switch to Visual editor and back to code editor.

<p>
<a title="Contact us for more information" href="/C:/C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Owner/Desktop/New%20ADS/contact/">
<font size="2">Contact us.&nbsp; Tell us your objectives and critical needs. We will help you find the right solution.</font> </a>us your objectives and critical needs. We will help you find the right solution.</p>
<font size="+0"></font>
</li>
</span>
<br />
<p>
<a title="Contact us for more information" href="/C:/C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Owner/Desktop/New%20ADS/contact/">
<font size="2">Contact us.&nbsp; Tell us your objectives and critical needs. We will help you find the right solution.</font> </a>us your objectives and critical needs. We will help you find the right solution.</p>
</font>

Any thoughts and help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Hans

Hans you shouldn't switch between the two code editors as they code completely differently and you will get mixed up code as you have found.

You need to choose one to work in and stick with it.
I know you believe you understand what you think I said...but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not exactly what I meant.

I am trying to help a friend with your software. I just purchased it so I could try to help her. I cannot get the Visual Editor to work, no matter what I check in tools-preferences, etc.
I get an error dialog box, No such interface supported.
I do not consider myself a beginner with web work, and I have had no problems with Front Page or Web Expressions.
Can anyone give me a reason for this error and hopefully a solution?

How do I turn on the Visual Editor?
By default, the Visual Editor is turned off. To turn it back on, go to Tools >
Preferences > General tab, and uncheck Hide Visual Editor tab.

Remember though that it is not recommended to use both the visual editor and the code editor in the same page. Choose one and stick with it or your code will get mixed up.

I have done this in Tools. I have also tried to get it to run in WYSISWYG, same error message. Even starting with a blank page, with only the head section, same results.
Sites I have up and working load in OK, I can preview, I cannot get Visual Editor to work, same error message every time. I have tried saving the HTML, even under a new ID, same error message when reopened. I have closed build 913, restarted the program, same results.
I have run out of options on my end, and until I can get some way to "see" where I am dropping pics, putting in my tables, etc. I an at a loss.
I have never had an issue with FP, FP200, FP 2003 or Web Exp. I am used to being able to place things wher I want them.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled, all to no avail.
I am only working with this software to help a friend. She is having many issues with build 913 that she never had before.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
