Simple answer required please: Once I insert a table into a page I am designing in CC HTML Editor, using its Visual Editor, am I able to use the Visual Editor to edit that table (merge cells, etc.), or do I have to revert to the Code Editor to do so?

It is not recommended to switch between the two editors or your code will get muddled. So stick with which ever one you start with. Ideally any edits would be best done within the table code but see how you go using the visual method and let us know

I know you believe you understand what you think I said...but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not exactly what I meant.

Some or all of those things can only be done in the code editor.

In that case start in the code editor and stick with it.

I've only been using the your product for 1 day. But its clear the Visual Editor...which to every non technical designer...is the most important feature...is absolute crap. You don't even have it turned on by default. I had to spend 30 mins trying to figure out how to turn on Visual Editor. My 2003 version of Microsofts Frontpage is actaully a more user friendly editor...at least its Visual Editor works.
If you're someone that relies on a Visual Editor to edit HTML, then Coffee Cup is going to disappoint you.

For a non-technical designer you would maybe have been better off trying out the Visual Site Designer. The HTML Editor was never intended to be a WYSIWYG editor.
Perhaps if you could moderate your language a little and explain what difficulties you have encountered so that we can offer some assistance. If you prefer, you can download the trial version of the Visual Site Designer to see if that is more in keeping with your needs.

I agree with Janys here Daniel, sounds like you picked the wrong program for the right job. HTML Editor (the name itself tells you it's a code editor at heart) isn't meant for visual editing. At one time it did both fairly well, but it's been pulling away from that visual side for a while now because the Visual Site Designer program has taken over that visual job.
Give it a spin and check it out, I'm sure you'll see it's a lot more powerful than the HTML Editor ever could be for visual editing and with the hundreds of people using it, I'm sure if you have questions or problems figuring how to work a function on it someone will be very glad to help you.
Trust me (or don't lol) there are a lot of satisfied users of VSD so give it a shot and check out the trial, and I'm betting you "won't" be quite as disappointed as you thought you were with CoffeeCup

So the answer to the original question is.....
I am using 2010 build 369 (HTML editor) and likewise cannot add a row to an established table, in the Visual Editor view.

Tables aren't part of the Visual side of the HTML Editor if I recall correctly (correct me if I'm wrong someone please as I don't have it installed on mom's computer while I"m visiting lol). To add that you'd need to allow for Code to be added to the page, which is a tricky situation at best.
Really is best if you use the Visual Site Designer for the visual type of site building as it's a much more robust program which is more suited for the job. It was created for the person wanting to do visual site designing which although the HTML Editor is somewhat capable of doing, it's far from complete compared to using the Code side itself, or VSD program instead.
Since you already have the HTML Editor you'll be able to use it to create tables in the Code side of the program and then use the code to put into VSD for them which is a very nice setup to be able to do both without complications. Unlike the HTML Editor Code and Visual sides of the program which are like Jekyll and Hyde, they don't play nice together
