Drop down menu doesn't work in Google...

I have a website with a drop down menu which I created using CoffeeCup. I recently tried out my website on a friend's iPad and the menu worked fine, but I have just bought a Google Nexus 7 tablet and although the drop down menu drops down in Chrome and Firefox, it doesn't stay dropped down so it is really hard to select an item from the menu. If you tap very quickly you can freeze a couple of items on the menu and then click on the one you want but my menus are very long, over a dozen items on some of them so it doesn't even give you a chance to read all the options. In Opera mini-browser the menu doesn't drop down at all. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know how we can fix it? My website isn't really designed for use on tablets and smart phones but my Google Analytics show a slow but steady increase in the number of people using these devices so I really need to get the menu problem fixed.

Hi Ian,
Try changing your top li elements that have a drop down to look like this.:)
<li onmouseover="">
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Right I tried that but it didn't work. Just to check, by top li elements I assume you mean the ones that create the columns which drop down? Also am I supposed to put anything between the double quotation marks in <li onmouseover=""> ?

Thanks,

Ian

That's all I did to my css nav menu to get it to work with IPhones. Can you provide a link for us to look at it?

Yes, but mine already worked OK in Safari on iPad so presumably it works OK on iPhones as well. The problem presumably is with the android operating system and it is only going to get more popular.

I've only put the code on the index page, but if you are going to check it on an iPhone it may work anyway.

When you say the menu doesn't stay down in FX, you mean even when you take your mouse away? That seems like normal behavior to me. It does stay down on my iphone but that seems correct to me for a touch screen.:) The only thing is that on my IPhone if I touch somewhere else it doesn't close the drop down.:(

I have a nexus and when I access your site,using the Nexus Chrome browser I hold my press on the menu item a bit, then a second window opens asking if I want to open in new tab I press elsewhere and then the menu remains on the screen allowing me to select any item. Using the Firefox browser on the nexus doesn't work at all. Very strange behavior. Great site by the way

On a PC, when you place your mouse over one of the top level menu items, the menu drops down and stays down as long as you hold your mouse over the top level menu item. You can then use your mouse to run the cursor down the list and click on the one you want. If you move the cursor off the top level menu item, the drop down list disappears.

Presumably with a touch screen when you put your finger on the top level menu item, the rest of that menu should drop down and stay down as long as your finger is on the top level item so that you can run your finger down the list and tap on the one you want. How else do drop down menus work on a touch screen? Cayucostom is right about Chrome. My concern is that this is not how a drop down menu should operate and I don't know how obvious it is to Nexus users that this is what you should do in Chrome. In Firefox for Android, as cayucostom says, it just doesn't work at all. I have only just got my Nexus 7 so I haven't really checked out other drop down menus to see how they work, but I can't believe large companies with websites with drop down menus have the same problem. There must be a fix and as users of CoffeeCup who may have used CoffeeCup to create a drop down menu, we need somehow to find out what it is.

Do you have a link in the top level button? If not then try clicking it and seeing if it drops the menu down? If you do, try removing that link and then clicking it to see if it drops the menu down. Might be that simple as removing top level links for the mobile versions. Might not too lol, just thinking out loud here :P

I checked a few websites and CC's Navigation was the only one that would stay open then close when I touched the screen some where else.
Edit: CC's menu has top level links.
