Current NOF user, thinking of Coffee Cup

I currently use NetObjects 10. I am not very happy with it. I find it very cumbersome and difficult to use and I would like to find another program to replace it with. When I google for like products, CoffeeCup is at the top of the list, so I thought that I would give it a try.

First question, anyone here a current/previous NOF user? How do you like CC and is it a better development tool than NOF?

Second question, how can I convert a site that was previously made using NOF into CC? I tried the import method, but CC didn't really like it.

NOF relies very heavily on tables. Is that the same with CC? Personally I would like to get away from using tables, and use more CSS.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions for me, I would really like to hear them.

Thank you.

Welcome Daryl,

I used NOF a couple of years ago and was it that time happy with it. Like every software, it had it good things and it bad things. I had an illegal copy from a friend of mine who recently died. He provided me with a lot of expensive extra's too.

Well, I getting older and wiser so to say, I provided myself with legal software. Yes, CoffeeCup is on top of the search list and have the overall best reviews for a price that can't be beat.

Long story short; I'm very glad I made the switch. Great software, great support.

To convert NOF into CC: Well, I think the best change to do so is you use CC HTML editor. You can come far with the HTML tool in CC Visual Site Designer, but won't support all functionality that NOF offers.(Especially those nifty 3rd party objects)

I can't really say much about converting for I'm a new user myself and don't have any experience in converting sites.

Nevertheless, you made an excellent choice!

Daryl,

Every program produces something that can be read by browsers. Typically that is HTML files. VSD will not import any files.

The HTML Editor will let you edit the pages you currently have on your website. Once you have used FTP to get the files on your computer, you can edit them a page at a time and update them to use CSS instead of tables.

If you run into any problems, you can always ask questions here in these forums and find many helpful folks.

The HTML Editor does not insert anything by itself (in code mode, that is), so you are free to use tables if you want, or CSS if you prefer that. It's all your decision.

Hey

I have been using NOF 5 - 11 for many years. I recently switched to CC Visual Designer and I had to completely start from scratch. NOF produces web pages by drawing tables around every object so that it is fixed in place. When you look at an NOF page in an editor that's exactly what you'll see - tables everywhere.

It took me about 1/4 of the time it took to build a site in NOF (any version). I still depend on tables for somethings (like page counters) but not for much else.

Some improvements to Visual Designer might be: a built in HTML editor, tables and the ability to center objects without going thru a lot of hassle. Centering itself would reduce the need to use tables in most circumstances.

Hope this helps !!
