Anyone, HELP!
I have been trying for a couple of hours to upload my website project.
I cannot do it.
I get an error message that tells me that an image file cannot be opened.
I have tried to remove the image from my website project folder, but get the message that it cannot be moved- it is in open in another program! I did make sure that I closed all other programs and there is no way that it is open somewhere else. I can't even delete it! Grrrrr!
I have tried re-booting as well.
this is an ai file from an ANCIENT Illustrator program.
Has anyone ever had this, and do you know how to fix it?

if its used on one of your pages you might need to remove it from the page first? - then close the editor - then delete the file from the project folder?

just guessing here.... might be worth a try though....
Have fun

Not on any of my pages.
it is still in my project folder because I cannot delete it.
I bought an image online, and edited it in Adobe Illustrator and in Gimp. I made different copies, beucause I am using the image for more than one thing.
all of those files have completely different names, too!
Otherwise, the exact image, with that filename is not being used ANYWHERE else.
I cannot delete it, move it, or upload it.

Can you copy the folder and re-name the original folder and then try and delete it from the copy and then give the copy folder the original name? Might be able to trick it.
I know you believe you understand what you think I said...but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not exactly what I meant.

I have just uploaded my website project, one by one, to avoid this problem. I have no idea where in the hell this file is open, I have scoured my entire computer to find it.
I don't care anymore, I'll work around it. thanks for trying to help! :D

You can select a bunch of files to upload in one hit. If its only one file you don't want to upload then select all and deselect the one you don't want then right click and select upload.

Edit: this works with the FTP program but should work with html Editor. I think the Editor also has an option in the top toolbar to upload only the selected files.

You might have to actually look at the image file properties which might be preventing you from doing things. Open the folder where you have the image and right click on it. See the properties and go in to see if the couple of check boxes at the bottom of the little properties window are checked or not. If they are, try unchecking them and see if that makes a difference. In the advanced options there are other boxes to check too... they might make some difference to how the image can be handled.

Google for a small file utility called unlocker and install it. You then have a right-click context menu action 'unlock file'. This will tell you what program is locking the file and will give you options on how to unlock/delete it. This is an indispensable utility and I use it often when mystery file locking occurs.

Good luck

Esther, the .ai file cannot be used on the web. Last time I looked it was only possible to use either jpg, gif or png. You'll have to open it in an image editor and save it with a different file extention.
Ha en riktig god dag!
