Jo Ann , yes for sure - good points on the versions - always a good thing to check.
I am running the most recent build of CC / Editor.
What I did was ( in the end ) , as the few steps I did helped but seems I still had issues with loads and my FTP within the editor would not change folders for some reason.
I am running Windows 7 PRO and went ahead and downloaded the free Windows VM from Microsoft which runs a full instance of Windows XP ( as noted in my prior post ) ... dang I have it in a 256 meg VM and CC / Editor is working sweet ! Luv Luv the editor / in this environment no load issues and FTP instance works perfecto !
Anyway , love the concept of CoffeeCup / The community / The Tools / The Dev Team - so I will always promote CC Fo Sho!
Cheers all...

Wow, I'm sorry to hear you had to go through so much trouble to make it work, I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate and have no issues (well very few and most seem to be "computers been running a few hours and now the programs get little glitch" type things and it's not all CC stuff so... lol) but then my computer is haunted if you go by what Scott says lol.
Just out of curiosity, since I didn't see you say you did it, did you try uninstalling, running ccleaner by piriform.com and then reinstalling? You probably did if you worked with support at all, but thought I'd ask as sometimes that can make a difference too.
I'm glad you have it working in at least an environment at all, so no matter what you do with the Windows 7 issue, at least you're set to go

Jo Ann....
Yeah - I am sure it is on my end , but I wanted to test out the Windows VM solution anyway , as I am a technology engineer as well for my 9 to 5 - do a lot of consultation and such.
I did deinstall and reinstall , however ... the ccleaner I did not know about ( or I did not pay attn. to a suggestion about it ) so I did not run that. Sounds interesting , I will have to goto the web site to check it out , always interested in cool utilities for the toolbox !
So that leaves it open to "maybe" ccleaner may have fixed it perhaps?
Anyway.
Have a great remaining weekend!
Cheers,
Dave

You're quite welcome, sounds like it worked and hopefully you're all set to go. Happy VMing lol I haven't gotten that brave yet

I'm now experiencing this exact same issue. HTML Editor Build 369. I lose about 40 minutes out of every hour waiting for the hour glass to go away.
Other symptoms ... The side panel showing with the "My Computer" tab open won't stay on my working directory. When I open the working directory it stays there for a few minutes then goes to the desktop. Even then it won't stay put it as it changes the viewed directories. It also hides then reveals the C: drive then hides it again. This happens continuously. And all the while the hour glass is still there.
This build has been working great for me since I first installed it. I noticed the problem a few days ago. It seemed to coincide with the time I deleted a directory. The directory happened to be my "Default Working Folder". I noticed the problem the next time I opened the editor and the problem has been here every since.
I've uninstalled it, run CCCleaner and re-installed. I've run it in compatibility mode ... I'm running Windows XP.
Nothing seems to work. I'd like to delete the file that holds the settings for the Default Working Directory but I can't find it. Wondering if I went back to the initial settings this problem might go away.

Yes...I feel your pain. The exact same thing is happening to me and has happened with frustrating randomness since the first releases of CC 2010. I was so bad that I went back to 2008 and used that until it annoyed the crap outta me so much that I figured I'd give 2010 a try again after the last update. It seems a (small) tad better, but it is now getting worse.
I have used some of my spare time to search for another editor but I have not found any that I feel like learning. I am so set in my ways that I would be at risk of chucking my machine across the room if I had an editor that didn't do things like CC.
Fix this annoying issue and I don't mean having we users having to kluge a fix it by running it as administrator or using DEP or running it in compatibility mode nor in XP mode (I tried that and it sucked.)
I mean fix the program to run on newer software.
I am running Win 7 Pro 64bit on my work laptop, a fairly new Toshiba Centrino.
Crossing fingers, toes and eyes in hopes that I am listened to and my wishes are complied with.

Hiya John,
Every machine is different when it comes to that Administrator setting. Some people need to do it, some don't. I haven't had to so far at all with any of the CC software, and I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. The 64 bit versions seem to be more prone to this setting. What I don't understand is what the issue is with you not wanting to do that. It takes 2 seconds to set this for your program(s) and it's not just CC software you're going to have this issue with on 64 bit. Just my 10 cents

Jerry I would suggest you put in an support ticket since no one has had an answer for you. Support from CC usually happens there if the team is needed. Good luck and hopefully it will get working for you. I came from Windows XP a few months ago before going to windows 7 and I had the most recent build of the HTML Editor installed and had no issues with it, so there must be some conflict or file getting in the way and hopefully they can help you get that worked out

Hi Jo Ann,
Well, that does not help. I have tried every compatibility setting and combination that is possible.
I've had it for several days as Run as Admin and XP SP3 and nothing else. Yesterday it ran without problems at all. Today, I fired up CC and misery struck immediately and without letup. I've done nothing to the machine in the meantime...no new programs...no auto-updates AFAI can tell. The machine hasn't been rebooted nor shut down in a couple of days... I've checked my mail (Thunderbird) this A.M. and surfed a bit yesterday and today (FF and Chrome) probably also played a few games of Freecell but that's about it.
The random nature of CC's behavior really annoys me. I will have to reboot now before I can get to work. I tried shutting down explorer and restarting it but that didn't help.
I would have no problem at all just setting a compatibility choice that works and forgetting it but that DOES NOT WORK with any consistency.
I'm getting tired of this. I have been out looking for another editor but none have pleased me so far. I've used CC since the early 2000's and am set in my ways. I wish this could be fixed.
Perhaps the wrong place to ask, but does anyone know of a STABLE HTML editor out there?
John
