Hi All, we have built several websites on coffeecup VSD with great success. However, as some are getting bigger, the ftp within coffee cup has been erroring out so we asked if we could just use an outside ftp program to upload all the files to the server instead. The answer was SURE. We opened our VSD folder on our hard drive, opened the FILE folder on both our hard drive and on our server and dragged ALL 1573 + image files across (45 minutes to do) then, we closed the FILE folder and grabbed all the html files and dragged them across to the place they were previously located on our server and once that was done, the site looked perfect. However, the client asked if we could change one thing on one page and we were told we could do that in coffee cup VSD and then JUST pull the new html file across to the server and any NEW image files to go with it. That is when the train wreck started. We did that and the result was that just about every page on the site has been toasted and I can't figure out how to fix it. I moved ALL 1573 + image files across AGAIN, thinking that would solve the problem but it didn't so now I have a toasted site and no one seems to know how to solved it.... HELPPPPP. The site is at http://rockyhollowlodge.com and the ONE page I was trying to tweak is at http://rockyhollowlodge.com/1.html. Sadly, when I tweaked that one page and pulled the new html file across, it resulted in just about every other page on the site being toasted. the biggest mess shows up if you click on the guest scrapbook button and then click on ANY of the thumb nail images on the page. HELP!!!
Thanks,
Bonnie
Thanks,
Bonnie
Bonnie, did you get this figured out? I'm not seeing anything out of sorts (Firefox, IE8, Chrome). If not; have you tried refreshing your browser an/or clearing your browser cache?
Maybe you could post a screenshot or describe in more detail what you're seeing?

Hi Douglas,
here are some screen shots of what I'm seeing when I check the site out on firefox as of a few minutes ago. I even shut down the computer, cleared out the cache and restarted everything and it is still toasted?? I also checked it out on my laptop and on IE and aol and it is toasted in different ways on each browsers

Bonnie,
The pages look fine here on Chrome 7, including the ones you use in your screen shots.
The screen shots look like the pages have not completed loading...

Hi, sorry about the Douglas thing (juggling too many people and projects today!).... Do you have any idea what would cause the pages to appear like they haven't completed loading? I'm totally baffled. I'm looking at them on two computers, different browsers and on all, they have that weird appearance. I'm at a point where I can't update anything without worrying about what it is doing now. This started when I tried to bypass the coffeecup ftp program inside VSD because it was erroring out on larger sites and instead, used coffee cup's free ftp program and just moved the files directly to my server. HELPPP!
Bonnie I think i can see what you are talking about, some backgrounds are only partial
I think you are possibly missing some background images
VSD 6 has given me errors similar to this, it i think is caused by large images, especially when some have been moved, or removed, or their sizes have been modified
Firstly VSD when you have big uploads seems to get to a point as though it has stalled, if you have been getting this (AND I THINK ITS WHAT IS HAPPENING) i found in the past that switching off my firewall cured it
Its something to do i think with the bit where it asks if you want to manually delete the old files
So please try uploading with the inbuilt ftp in vsd with your firewall switched off, and report back if that helped or not
sometimes trying one step at a time, helps others suggest more possible cures

Strange - everything shows up fine here. I just had a look on all computers in the house (vista, win 7 and linux) on a variety of browsers and couldn't find anything like in your screen shot. You don't have 2 versions of the site on your server or in VSD, do you? Maybe new files (changes) are getting uploaded to the wrong site or page? Maybe I'm seeing the older, unchanged version?
Have you gone to your hosting account control panel and had a look to see what's actually there?
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you
- hope you find an explanation for this!

Just checked again to see how you were getting on
above page in particular still has large chunks missing in firefox
I just tried to add up the total size of all the images, it is massive
have you tried reducing image size in photoshop or similar save for web i think you could reduce overall by about 75% including if you dramatically reduce the background image

Viv, good idea. Maybe it's just a matter of connection speed - would explain why we're all seeing different things. The page above looks fine to me (Firefox/Linux), but the images could stand to be optimized for web.
