VSD6.06 Page Image Problem - Page 2 -...

My first post here - and of course it had to be a complaint... ;)
I transfered my old web-site to VSD and experienced this bug imidiately.
I have a standard header-picture on each and every page. As other have pointed out this image gets fuzzy when I re-edit the pages. The solution was to have a separate copy on each page - certainly a pain!

Is there any other clever way to add a header-picture on every page? I use this header as my top-level menu as well.

I just downloaded the last release of VSD to test out some other problems I had. The had all been solved, so I went on to test the image-problem.
Looks like it also have been solved?
I made a test-site with 6 pages where I re-used the same picture on every page. No problem at all.

Could someone from CoffeCup confirm that this bug has been corrected in the version from July 27th?

Would have been great to have a read-me-file to see what corrections have been fixed in the upgrades. Is this available somewhere?

Thanks for the good software you make!

Hi

We just slipped this update online late yesterday and I had plans on announcing it later today. This version actually had no changes to the image components. This update contained a small fix that under certain situations the VNU file name was saved without an extension. When you then re-opened your Website, the changes would appear to have been lost.

Strange that it did fix your image issue, but heck, awesome that it did ;) If anyone else sees that this did fix any image issues, please let me know.

Where can I find the update? The version in MyOrders = 6.0.6R.exe which is the version I have now.

The version and file name is still the same. The change was so small we did not increment the version number.

This is true, but go ahead and dl that and install and see if it makes any difference. couldn't hurt right. The link in the previous post explains what was done, and I don't know for sure if it will help you but it is an update, so let's try and see. :)

I have 400 jpg pictures in my wife’s jewelry website. Each picture has been cropped and edited and saved as a 400x400 jpg file. In her website each piece of jewelry is shown on a grouping page in 100x100 square boxes and when one of these squares is selected the viewer is taken to an independent description page with the same picture file now displayed in a 400x400 square. In addition we have two new item grouping pages that have up to 60 of these same pictures displayed a third time in 100x100 squares. The site is presently up and working correctly using VSD 5.9
http://www.beadsofparadisejewelry.com/

When I converted this website to VSD 6.0 (to include the latest version released on July 27) I get about 30 percent of the 400x400 jpg picture files converted to thumbnail size 100x100 jpg pictures, whose file size have also been reduced to 6 or 7 KBs from their original 60 to 80 KBs. These pictures that have been changed by VSD 6.0 to this smaller size now display as fuzzy or out of focus on the description pages that have the 400x400 display squares.

All picture jpg files are changed to some degree each time you do a SAVE or PREVIEW in VSD 6.0 during the BUILDING WEBSITE process as explained by Scott in an earlier post. This last time I again converted the VSD 5.9 website to VSD 6.0 build 6; I had 73 jpg pictures that were converted from their original sizes to a jpg thumbnail size file that are now less than 7KB? All of the remaining 327 jpg files have maintained original size (or very close to it) and clarity when viewed on the web pages having 400x400 squares. The 73 pictures reduced by VSD 6.0 are now shown as out of focus when viewed on the 400x400 square pages.

After about two weeks working with technical support, it was suggested that I make copies of the 400 jpg pictures and rename them and then go back into VSD 6.0 and re-link each of the newly named jpgs to the 400 or so 100x100 squares on the grouping and new item webpages. This is not my idea of an easy workaround.

Is the image-problem solved?

Up until these last few versions, there's been countless pleads to fix having multiple copies of images generated. I guess attempting to solve one issue brings on the opposite (not enough copies). You would then think, perhaps VSD can keep the original size but only scale the image down in the code, not affecting the file itself. However, then many people will probably load a 2MB image and wonder why their tiny thumbnail takes a full minute to load online. I guess, ideally, multiple copies of images would only be created when they're used more than once in a site. Of course, I'm sure that's easier said than done, as I have no clue as to how much coding is involved in making that happen.

I can confirm that on my site - the "bluring-image-problem" is solved.
I have 30+ pages sharing the same header-image. I made 30+ copies of the same image to get past the problem, but after installing the latest version I for a test deleted (physically) all the copies, and changed all the pages back to the old way. I have published the site a couple of times now, and saved and reopened the site in VSD several times without any problem at all.

A couple of other problems was also solved:
  • Link to an external file on a website NOT starting with www did not work. I tried to link to http://ljosnes.no/webcam.jpg. When saving the site VSD complained that the file was not found. I had to change to http://www.ljosnes.no/webcam.jpg to make it work. This is now solved in the latest version.
  • I used a vertical guide to adjust my items. When I changed the page-height in the page-properties-window the grid suddenly appeared! I had to Remove guides and then turn on the vertical guide again to get it back. This is also solved in the latest version.
