I am running Windows 7, upgraded to VSD 7, since then every time I restart my computer VSD will not start, No error messages , no indication that the program has gone away... I have to reload VSD from your support site to get it to work, needless to say I am using the very latest version every time I have to reload.... any Idea what the prblem might be?
Also a suggestion, I manage 4 or 5 small websites for friends, when I publish my site you no longer tell me where they are being published too in the uplad dialog box, this is a little disconcerting as I do not want to upload to the wrong site. Could you put " Uploading To XXXXXXX" in the dialog as in V6.(please)

Robert, try right-clicking on the VSD icon and choose 'run as administrator'. I didn't have to do this with Vista, but Win7 seems to like it  Scott has some more info about this, I'll find it and post it here (if he doesn't beat me to it).

Now, with S-Drive and Streams as well as standard hosting, one could have a lot of different publishing destinations. Go to 'Publish' (top menu between settings and tools) and you'll find a place to enter all your various accounts (whether standard or S-Drive). Then when you're ready to upload, click 'choose a publishing destination' to make sure you've got the right site/ftp chosen (if it's an S-Drive site you click 'Publish To XXX.coffeecup.com' under the same publish tab), for your regular VSD sites, click the globe icon as usual.

OK, here's Scott's instructions:

To fix this, right-click your Visual Site Designer shortcut icon and select Run as Administrator. This should properly launch Visual Site Designer for you. If it does, great! You can continue to launch the program in this way, or you can go a step further and configure the shortcut to always run as administrator. Here's how:

1. Right-click the shortcut icon, and click Properties.
2. Click the Compatibility tab.
3. Here, put a check mark by Run This Program as an Administrator.
4. Next, put a check mark next to Run This Program in Compatibility Mode For: and ensure Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 is selected.
5. Click OK.

If you continue having problems you may also need to set the application as an exception to Windows Data Execution Prevention (DEP) feature. Normally if this is the culprit, you'll get a little bubble along the taskbar notifying you, which will allow you to set the offender as an exception.

One last option that could be the cause of this, and related to the DEP feature, is User Account Controls. This is the large window that appears in Vista asking you to "Allow" or "Deny" access to functions within programs. You can turn this off within your Control Panel > User Accounts window, along the left-hand pane.

All three options let you control your system exactly how you want and give you full access to do/run anything on the computer.
