I just started using VSD 5.8.4 today and tried to create a new web site. I wanted my logo on the page. I selected the Picture Tool and clicked on the page to drop the image there. The dialog box opened and I was able to select my image folder but none of my logo images appeared in the list.

I typed *.png
in the File name field to see if the All Formats file type selector was messed up. This did have the effect of at least listing the files I was looking for.

When I selected the file I wanted and clicked the [i]Open[i] button, I just got a message saying:
(yes, the spelling is correct).

My browser (Firefox 2, IE 7) and the Windows picture viewer (in Windows XP) are able to open it perfectly. What gives?

Right now, only JPG and GIF images are allowed. We will be adding PNG support in one of the next updates.

Will that include gif too?

Since Flash Firestarter allows gif and png, both VSD and FFS will work much better together.

It is now a year since the above post about VSD supporting PNG files. I to just discovered the lack of support for PNG files. Is Coffee Cup Software dieing a slow death? Many posts in the forums are old with no final resolution. Seems a year is a long time to wait when one is working on a website that needs to be current. So what's the story?

Version 6.0 has been running in beta for a few months. This version has PNG support as well as many other new items.

The "story", as some call it, is that this forum is run by it's members, all voluntarily. Those who have an answer post it. If you want som help or advice from the CC staff, it would be better if you contacted them directly, i.e. by submitting a support ticket.

How can I get a beta copy so I can use png files?
I've been using VSD for over two years now and am really starting to get frustrated that I can't load a png file...

I have image backgrounds and the ugly space around images I create in AI frustrate me...

The beta testing is now closed. We are wrapping up now the new icons, manual and documentation. We are hoping to publicly release it mid-end March.
