Is it normal for VSD to add a new .vnu file every time I save changes to a site?

Yes, that is normal. ;)

This gives you a backup of your website each and every time you make changes. You may think you don't like it, but when you computer crashes, you will be so glad you have backups. ;)

Thanks Scott, So is it ok to delete the older ones and just keep 2 or 3 for the just in case factor? :/

That is entirely up to you. The file sizes are extremely small, so why not just leave all of them?

Hi, i was looking for a bit of backgroud on this new "feature".

first a bit of background.
I cannot for the life of me get the "upload" of my website files to complete to my hosting server, using VSD. I get an error as detailed in other threads of "Upload error" It seems to fail in different places and takes varying amounts of time to fail. I gave up at 12 attempts. This tends to make the web site un readable as it seems that files are not complete etc..
there is no realy way to tell what caused the "upload error" as there is no useful error description.
My only way to recover is to completly reload the site, which I can do if i use filezilla.

This leads me to my question.
When ever I open an existing web site in VSD I always open the same one, but when it saves it seems to save with a different .vnu/directory.
Since upgrading to version 7, I have noticed new .vnu files and accompying directories of the same name appearing.
If I modiy a page and save the site, I seem to get a new .vnu file/directory. When I check these directories in explorer, I see from the file modification dates, which ones are the newly created.
My issue is that due to the way I need to upload using filezilla, I need to make sure I upload the modified pages and associated files from the correct directory. This is a pain.
My question is, if by some miracle I manage to publish the site from the VNU file that is opened in VSD, will all the modified files be rearranged into a single directory on my computer, thus eliminating the confusion i currently am experiencing?

is this a vsd made website?
What exacly is the error Jim?
When you save the website you made in VSD are clicking save as or save?
if you upload throgh VSD, everything that is needed for that website is uploaded, the vnu is like a template of your website, whereas no other program can use it, VSD converts the data in the vnu to html for your pages and uploads, if you notice the little pop up that shows the status of the upload, you can read it and will tell you what is currently being uploaded, so you can see if it errors on an image or page. make sense?:)
