I'm having the same issue with text overlapping. I previewed in the latest I.E. Opera FF and Safari all are fine. However If I look at my site using I phone (safari) in a jumbled mess, and the percentage of the population using similar phones is growing exponentially so I can't ignore it. How do you merge all the text into one box?

comments on how to improve the site always welcome:D

Hi Kev
I like the site but you need to run your text through a spell checker!
Well you did ask for comments on how to improve the site!

Kev. I agree a little attention to your spelling typos in there... and I have to say that the royal blue has very poor contrast with the background and makes reading rather difficult.

*hands Tony a new pair of glasses* :P

I am pointing out only the things I see on the first page so you'll need to go through the rest and make sure they are also cleaned up as I'll assume there are mispellings and caps inconsistencies etc. there too.

Title (h1, h2 or h3 not sure which) line:
Security Cameras, Burlar Alarms, Access Control, Fire Alarm Systems, Full Home Automation
Wireless electronic locking for U.P.V.C. doors

2nd image's text, last line the word cameras is missing the 2nd "a":

3rd image's text, Title line is inconsistant capitalization, last line missing a space between U.P.V.C and Door

I would suggest you give all your text a good once over for capitalization inconsistancies as there are many as well as using a good spell checker.

I would also like to comment on something that I feel might hurt your business instead of help it.

"We don't actually go the 'Extra Mile'"

I realize you probably are thinking it's a clever idea, but it really makes it look like you're trying to "fool" your customers into thinking you are giving them more than what they are getting. Just has a negative connotation to it for me, just my opinion of course.

I have to agree on the coloring a bit for the text, soften it up a bit so it's not so bright and sharp and it will be more professional looking too.

Nice layout though for sure, I think it will be really nice once you get it all worked out :)

Jo Ann... watch your spelling... coloring for Kev is not ok!!! Looks as if he is in the UK!! And we lot in the UK have colouring not coloring. But maybe he has no coloring or colouring in his site. Hmmmm

But on a more serious note, I would always suggest that you keep a dictionary to hand if you are not absolutely sure... and maybe get someone else to proof read your content. Someone who will give you honest (and hopefully correct) answers and comments if they see something wrong or dubious. When I say "you" should keep a dictionary... that is not aimed at you personally, Kev. Just a generally good habit.

Cary is right. The problem is ALWAYS the DPI setting of the monitor. But you can solve this by making a picture of the text, although this has one big disadvantage that I'll explain later.

After you typed something inside a textbox, mark 'allow advanced text'. This changes the textbox into an image, if you do something extra. > Click on the 'effect' tool and mark 'shadow'. The text is shadowed now, which you can see on the screen. Now set offset and softness both to 0%, so there's no visual effect. Yet VSD 'thinks' that you added some kind of effect to the textbox and changes it into an image. This will be displayed alright always, whatever monitor settings your visitor has.

The disadvantage is SEO. Google (and all others) looks for text on a page for indexing, and as this this text is no longer there (changed into an image), you won't be indexed anymore. So you have to put this information, this text, in the keywords and description of the page (maybe in a shortened way). Luckily you can input keywords and description for each individual page. You can find this option under the 'edit' drop-down menu.

Another solution is to add this text somewhere on your page a second time, inside a textbox which has the same color for the text as the background of the page. But of course this can be done only if the background of your page is filled with a single color....

A third solution is to place a critical textbox on the right side of your page, so it can't overflow other objects....

The last and most objectable solution is: don't use the textbox at all, but use the HTML tool for text input. Of course this is objectable because VSD is ment to be a WYSIWYG editor, where using HTML should be avoided....

The technical background of this problem is that VSD uses a table for text areas. Maybe this is solved in VSD 6.1.... I hope so.....

Since advanced text is basically an image, you can open the Object palette (top menu) and enter some alt-text there just as for any other image.

Thanks Paintbrush, for mentioning this extra possibility to add text information to a page. I always forget it...

Hey paintbrush, johnvanhulst, et.al., Thanks for the "image" work-around suggestion. I've tried a couple of solutions mentioned in other threads on this topic, but this option seems to work best. Fortunately, having the text reachable by search bots isn't 100% necessary for my project. And yes, let's hope this gets addressed and fixed in v6.1!
