I was making updates to my site this morning. When I came back and tried to re-open the .vnu file I get the following error message:

"Homepage Cannot Be Opened!"

After that VSD shuts down. I have a ton of hours into my site and don't want to have to rebuild it.

Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what did you do to get things working again?

Thanks for any help.

Can anbody help on this? Lots of views, but no comments......

Are there any company admins on here that can provide advice? I sent in a request through the website for tech support but haven't heard anything.

For the money I spent I was hoping for a product that doesn't crash so easily......

Scott,

Thanks for the response.

I will send him my VNU file when I get home tonight, I'm at work right now.

Any ideas on how the file could have been corrupted?

Sorry I didn't see his response right away, I'm new to this product and your support process. I thought the response would come to my email address directly.

Horror of horrors, the same thing happened to me today. I made several updates in the last few days, with about 27 pages on my website, but now I cannot load the website into VSD - it errors out and then the program closes. I tried rebooting and reinstalling the progam to no avail.

The program has worked for over a year, although I only recently started using it more than once every two or three months. It might be related to the Flash Search, which I just purchased and started using a few days ago.

Are others having problems? Should we keep a separate backup of our files each time we have a successful save?
Since I have been using a RAID network storage system, I have not gone through the trouble of separate backups, but if it is possible for the files to get corrupted, then it might be advisable....

Thanks for any help you can give!

Hi Sue,
Sue if you were to undo the changes you made would it make any difference?
What Version are you using? OS? ANd what changes have you made?
You may wish to make a support ticket as well.

Hi Sue,
I suspected that my problem was due to reorganizing my local web directory. I decided to put all the pictures in an 'Images' directory where the VNU file was located instead of having them in a separate location. VSD does not seem to like it when images are moved. Right now I have the images in both locations and have been carefully checking each page as it is updated to make sure it only points to the new location. I don't like having duplicate data, but I sure don't want to have my VNU get corrupted again. What really scares me is some images that I created with the graphics tools (squares, etc) and made into links. I used 'COPY' to put them on many of my pages and I have no idea where they actually reside. If they happen to be in the old location and I get rid of it, at best I would get an error message or missing item on the page, but at worst, the VNU file would hiccup again. It would be nice to be able to click on an object and see where it is coming from - I have not been able to figure out how to do that.

You could try this: copy your VNU to another location and access it from there. If it opens ok without crashing VSD, save it and copy it back to the original location. (Don't forget to save a copy of the original somewhere else, just in case!!) That finally worked for me to somehow get my VNU accepted by the program without crashing. All is well again.

Hi Colosimo,
I believe anything made with the graphics tool is named by VSD (IMG_0, IMG_1 etc;) as example and located in the files folder in your website folder.
When I moved some files around, I got an error and was asked by the program to re-find them as it may which I did and all was fine. Is this not the case with you? did you get an error windox asking to browse for the missing images? I am just curious. Thanks.

Thanks for all your help. I'll try. Unfortunately, I can't change anything cause I can't open my website as VSD won't allow me to open it. My website is almost all pictures (I make and sell jewelry and it's pix of my jewelry on every page). I had this problem once before when I tried to change the font on a page. When I made it a certain size and color, VSD would shut down. When I changed the color slightly, it was fine. But now I can't even open it to start.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
