VSD Deleting Files From Download...

An unsettling thing has recently occurred in VSD7- during the Publishing/Uploading process, files were deleted from the Downloads folder on the server for no apparent reason, even though VSD had uploaded them all correctly the first time (well, apart from one file!)

I have been adding PDF documents to my site using the Link Properties > Create Link > Document process, which VSD then converts and adds to it's Downloads folder when uploading. This has been working ok without a problem. I recently created two new "gallery" pages with many thumbnail images linking to .jpg and .gif files using the Link Properties process as described above. When these were first uploaded, VSD uploaded all the files correctly into it's Downloads folder on the server, apart from one image file which I then had to upload manually via an external FTP. Everything worked fine at this stage.

But then when I next uploaded my site, VSD deleted the one missing file that I had replaced, as well as deleting all the linked image files from one of these two "gallery" pages! So what the heck is going on? Does anyone know the reason for this strange behaviour? It's very disturbing! I've managed to upload all the "deleted files" using CC FTP.

These are the pages in question which are linked:

I thought I'd check the forum users before going to the Support Room.

I've seen this. I usually go in to the remove files tool and check to see if their listed. If so remove them from there and redo your links.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Hi Rolly,

I didn't think that I had to use the Add Files... facility when adding links via the Link Properties method described above i.e. linking to 'document' files. I've never had to use this when adding PDF files....and those are not listed in the Add/Remove Files 'box.' The only files that are listed in the Remove Files... box are associated with flash programmes that have been added automatically, and a few other files I added manually for video. The image files that are being deleted by VSD aren't in the Add Files...Remove Files... boxes.

So I'm not quite sure what you were getting at there.

Cheers

I contacted Support and they advised Re-Syncing the site. This seems to have put things in order...at least for now. VSD does some strange things occasionally, which can be a little worrying - but as long as these 'errors' can be rectified and no lasting damage is done, that's alright! The program is great otherwise.

Thanks for the update Gerry. The resync thing is kinda like if all else fails reboot.:) At least you didn't have to get a bigger hammer.
