VSD Crashes on Startup
Fired up VSD tonight and the application crashes when trying to open an existing project or starting a new project. I receive the following.
AppName: vsd.exe AppVer: 5.9.4.0 ModName: vsd.exe
ModVer: 5.9.4.0 Offset: 00076df3
I'm at the latest version of SW according to the DL page. Can anyone give me some pointers as to what to try next to debug this?
Thanks,
Cal

Mine keeps crashing as well with Vista 64. It works fine for a bit. I close it. Then I try to re open it and get:
"Visual Site Designer Application has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution ot the problem."
Then:
" A problem (um, no kidding Microcrap) caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program (it never opens, lol) and notify you if a solution is available.
I ain't holding my breath on that one, lol.
*Update.
I tried to open the shortcut as an Admin and it opened, so I am guessing it is UAC, no?
But why does it initally work then stop?
Is CoffeeCup working on a fix for this? I am nervous about shutting off a security feature.
Thanks

Try right clicking on the VBD icon and select run as administrator.
Hi Bill R,
Thanks for the tip on right clicking on the VBD icon and asking it to run as administrator, it worked like a champ. Prior to this, each time I would close the program and try to get in the next day, it would error out saying that windows has shut down the program, etc., etc. Hopefully, right clicking on the icon and running as administrator is the work around for windows. The alternative was downloading it every other day from coffee cup's website to work on it. THANKS again,

Bonnie,
Always glad to help, especially when I have no direct knowledge.
Every time I see Vista, I turn and run. If Microsoft cannot produce a decent OS soon, my next computer will be Linux. When I save enough, I may get a Mac.

Thanks anyway Bill.

Hi folks,
I see a few posts about vsd not working properly in the last few days. I know I had many issues with programs (not just CoffeeCup) when I got my vista computer.
I did shut off UAC. Maybe I am in too much of a remote area to be hacked into, but I have never had any trouble with security that UAC could have prevented. I use antivirus software, and protection from spyware, maybe the odd latex product........went off track there....point is, I don't miss the continual popup of "Are you the one that you say you are"!"
If you are concerned about shutting off UAC, how about disconnecting from the Internet for a few minutes, then shutting off UAC and trying to launch the VSD program. Play with it a bit and see if it crashes. If it runs fine, try connecting to Internet and uploading your site. If it still does not crash, at least you know what is causing it, on your computer.
You can always go back and turn the UAC back on, if you like.
Of course, none of this applies if you have a different operating system.
