VSD - Buttons Enlongated ?

Can someone start me on the right track to know what's going here with the buttons on the left column ? http://www.greensborona.org/linksnc.html

I updated the narrative info on the page, then saved. I've been uploading (FTP) using Filezilla as I've been placing StatCounter script on the page with Note Pad ++. It's not on this page but has worked well for many months on the other pages.

There is no conflict with the text boxes and any other elements of the page that I can see.

Here's another problem I had this week http://www.greensborona.org/activities.html
I deleted the buttons in VSD. They don't show up in FF but outlines of them do show up in Opera.

Within VSD I copied a template page I knew was good and previously uploaded, deleted the text boxes and re-inserted new text boxes and narrative to recreate the page. Uploaded it - same distorted buttons. I believe that's what I did in the first example page.

Within VSD the preview browser shows all is well. On the server, I deleted the file rather than over write it with the new upload. That didn't help either.

Thanks a lot for you comments and help.

Check your local files folder where VSD stores images. If you've copied/pasted stuff, you'll find a lot of "generic" images:

Have a look at this thread and see if something there might help:

Are you working on your site now? It keeps changing. I saw the messed up buttons, and a minute later they looked normal - Let us know if you got it figured out! :)

Not working on the site now. Did a few days ago.

Just checked on Opera and Chrome. Still not right here ?

I'll have a look at your help links.

What do you mean generic images ?

Most of us don't number our image files, for example, if I made images for a menu I would give them names so I could identify them: home_button.jpg, not image_464.jpg. VSD creates those numbered image files.
On the Activities page, it looks like the menu images aren't in the same folder as the others. These are all listed as broken images:
1. http://www.greensborona.org/files/IMG_445.jpg
2. http://www.greensborona.org/files/IMG_446.jpg

When I go to your site from the above link, I see the messed up buttons. If I go to a different page, all looks fine and if I use the site url (under the title) rather than the home button - the page shows up fine.
I'm using FF on a Vista computer. Will go have a look in some different browsers......

Images again ?

I'm looking at VSD > files > images

There are some weird ones. Each of the buttons are jpg's (I know that) and each one has a unique number such as 132, 55, 216 etc. Even when copied to another page it creates a unique image # on that page - correct ? At least that's what the right click properties show for each jpg on each page even though they look the same.

So what does generic mean and what do I clean up ?

***Ok I just saw your reply. How do you know the images are broken ? How can I see that data ? I need to determine if they identify as such viewing from VSD / local browser, might be ok, then on the online browser broken ?

I guess I've got to figure this out.... thanks.

To you last paragraph.....

Yes, the two pages in my original post. they don't view correctly. The other pages are ok. As I said I even re-created from a template page that I knew worked, looked ok in the local browser, but messed up on the internet browser.

Have you got stuff from 2 different sites (or versions of this site) uploaded? I seem to have come across 2 different home pages. Things were looking OK in Chrome and IE8 (Vista), except for the missing image files on the activities page. Had a look on Windows7 (FF) and at first it looked the same as all the above, then found the links page menu messed up, and the home button sends me to a different version of the home page than if I click on the www. greensborona dot org link.

I'm just wondering if you've got 2 sites mixed up, because some pages look normal, then they don't, then they do :P seems like the buttons link to different places depending on what page they're clicked on.
Have you had a good look at all the files on your server? Might be time to clear it all off the server and start fresh, make sure everything's organized and all the correct image files are all in one place, then upload it.

Did you know - Under Edit in VSD there's a place to paste code for things like Google Analytics, etc... You might try putting your Statcounter code in there and use the VSD upload button.

Yes - I think you may be right about a good server clean up and may have a version mixed up. Its just a heck of a process / time to figure some stuff out as we all know. So thanks.

I'm aware of the html tool in VSD. I used it and inserted it at the end of the page. However upon viewing in a browser / page source the script appears at the top of the page, not the bottom. I verified this a few times / uploads.

From what I can gather java script should generally be placed at the bottom of the page so as not to slow the opening of the page and its primary information. This may be more important now because my stat counter shows about 1/3 of the hits are now from smart phones. 18 months ago there were none. With VSD so heavily jpg'd its something to think about ? However it may not make a difference at all....but is something to consider.

Firefox has some pretty neat add-ons; web developer toolbar and firebug. You can "dig around" in a website and get all sorts of info about the html, css, scripts.... "find broken images" is just one of many useful features. I think Chrome has a version of the web-dev toolbar now, too.

Edit - I just noticed your VSD version is from 2008, time to upgrade!!!
