VSD BROWSER PREVIEW PROBLEMS- URGENT...

Hi,

I have the latest version of VSD which I purchased and downloaded. I won't recount all the times I had to do a complete factory reinstall because the programme crashed with a MFC42.dll error. For now I think it's resolved, I hope...BUT...now another strange thing is happening...When I try to preview my page in the built in browser or default browser...not all of my images show up! It worked fine for about 1 day...Photo Gallery works fine....finally after I figured out that mystery....The text shows up in preview...some of my images show up but not all...I can't figure out why.... Things like my ICRA...ICCS and SafeSurf images are just not there. I put them on just like the other images and create a link...but they are invisible...Can anyone help?

When you go to create a link there are about five options, default is one of them I use default.

The one thing I will not do is reinstall this programme after doing it no less than a dozen complete factory reinstalls to get it working. That's right, could not just uninstall the programe and reinstall...once I got the MFC42.dll error my whole system was corrupt. Couldn't even do a restore point. This is just for reference. I lost the whole month of Jan new pages for my children's website. I can't afford to lose Feb as well for putting the new pages up.

It just doesn't make sense why some show and others don't.

Thanking you in advance...Look forward to your urgent reply.

Best regards

I cant tell you why your getting the error, but i am wondering what OS your using could be helpful, and maybe ask you if you tried maybe using the "Add Files Wizard" to add the images you can't see, just to see if that makes a difference. I also noticed when donig so in preview you can see you site but thats not a constant, in other words, if you do add files or images using the add files wizard, upload, then remove them so your not uploading them all the time, that if you look in preview later you wont beable to see what you placed where. another draw back, "Could it be VSD? or is it Memorex? that is the question.. ok kidding. but try that Cpt. Also are you running windows 2000 or 98?
type the error you get and read what it says, maybe that can help you solve the error and why your getting it.

Hi Bruce,

Well that didn't work. Really don't know. It seems the only problem is with the main page when I have my Iccs Icra etc..images. It's like sometimes they show in the preview and sometimes they don't. I use windows xp pro. It doesn't matter which I use..Firefox...Explorer or the Internal browser. One time they show in one and not the others. Is it the new VSD programme I really don't know. I'm wondering can I view the pages in an HTML editor? I just don't want to put up pages and find that things are still missing or placed badly.
It may be Memorex, who knows!

I've had so many problems with the programme I'm just grateful at this point that it's still working.

Am open to any and all ideas.

Best regards

Hi Capt,
I get the same as you Capt. but what I do now is add the files or images with the add files wizard located under settings. If you do that (then save) then you'll see your images in preview. But once you've uploaded VSD I would suggest you remove whatever you added so you won't be uploading those everytime. But again this idea might hamper the preview again, but at least you'll know where they are position wise. This is new in the 5.8 version, not in the previous version of 5.7 or 5.6

Hi Cpt B,

Have your tried these steps:
Upload your pages to the Internet.
See if images are showing up on the page.
Look to see if they have similar names.

I am thinking that somehwow the VSD program is not getting the image names right. Most likely the extensions. CaPItaL LetTeRS make a difference, so maybe the vsd is naming an image "image1.JPG" and it should be "image1.jpg"
or vise versa.

Have a look at your images that you are using to see if the extensions are all the same. Use eigher .jpg, .gif, .bmp or all .JPG, .GIF, .BMP but not a mix of .jpg and .JPG so that all the extentions are in small letters or CAPS

Might help, might not, but it is something to try.

Hi - I'm having a similar issue with an image. When I'm in VSD and I "preview" the page, it takes me to IE and I see the image just fine. When I use my menu and navigate to a new page, and then return to the first page, the image is no longer there. This happens on all the pages. I have 10 pages, each with the same image on them (company logo) and it seems like VSD has created multiple image files because I see in my directory IMG_01.jpg, IMG_02.jpg etc etc...which seems crazy, it should just use one file all the time right?

My Fix: I edited the pages in the HTML editor, used "Document Dependencies" and found that the image file was "not found" and manually input the file name. That did the trick. It's a pain, you have to do it on any pages effected but at least it fixes it.

Thanks,
Angela
