Version 6.06 is renaming some, but not all, of my images. What am I doing wrong? I would like for the image names to stick for SEO purposes.
Thanks,

VSD will make duplicate image files every time you move then save something, or when you copy/paste an original. So if you start with my_photo.jpeg then copy and paste it to a new location, you'll have IMG_1.jpeg. What you can do for SEO (and usability) is open Object Properties and at the bottom of that box you'll see a place to type in 'alt text'. Put your image title and a brief description there.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Your posts are always a big help.
Below, I have posted two lines of code:
<div class="Object30430"><img style="border:none;" src="files/IMG_55.jpg" alt="" width=100 height=1></div>
<div class="Object30431"><a href="antebellumearrings.html" ><img style="border:none;" src="files/200 new gold earrings.JPG" alt="" width=200 height=200></a></div>
Why would one line of code write "IMG_55.jpg" and the next the original photo name "200 new gold earrings.jpg"?
Thanks in advance for any help,
yeto

Hi yeto yeto,
anytime you add a style or an effect of some sort for your image, it's going to make a copy and rename that image as well FYI...

so it's best to add all effects to your images before hand, oops late....
Hi,
I understand what you are saying but I don't remember doing anything different other than inserting the photo with the photo insert tool from the toolbox.
Thanks for all the help,
yeto

I spoke with Scott about this last year and thought he'd said that the new version of VSD would start preserving file names (for SEO purposes, obviously). I went to reference the thread where Scott and I had this discussion, but it has since been deleted by CC admins?

Hi Chad,
I was hoping you would respond.
I searched before I posted my question and I read that thread. I did not see where a response was posted that resolved the issue. I can't understand why sometimes VSD will save the image name and sometimes not. I am still in the testing process to find the "sequence or events" that must happen for VSD to retain the image name. I am using VSD 6.06. Have you discovered anything different since the above thread was posted last year?
Thanks in advance for any help,
yeto

Yes Eric, that is the link I was looking for, the URL has been changed. Here is a message from Scott on 8-8-2009:
Version 6.06 does not do this anymore. All image names are preserved as they are entered in. Take a look here at http://hotsync.net/vsdimages/ The first page shows 2 GIF's added and the Page 2 shows 2 png's added. Both of the image names are preserved.
Yes, yeto, it seems that if you save your files as .PNG then VSD leaves the file names alone, but according to post above, it should be leaving them alone anyway in version 6.06 or above. But why don't you upgrade to the latest version/build?
Please let me know if I can be of help in any other ways...

VSD is not very search engine friendly. I found out after naming all my images according to my keywords for SEO purposes, that VSD actually CHANGES all the files names from "keyword1.jpg" and "keyword2.jpg" to "Img_1.jpg" and "image_2.jpg".
