VSD 6.0 (B6) - Grouping mess

I'm trying to create a set of lines that will be placed between word. Kind of like a menu on the left hand side of the screen.

I placed the lines parallel to each other. After I placed the words between the lines, I wanted to reduce the length of the lines, so instead of doing it one at a time, I grouped the lines and tried to use the right blue square to push the lines' length to the left. Instead, the whole group started to shrink - which is new because in the past it was possible to "push" one side of a group to reduce its size from one direction.

You can see the lines I want to shorten at http://www.rses.com/test

Any ideas?

If the lines are grouped, you will see that the 'Object properties' box is grayed out, so if you try reducing the length, the space between the lines will be reduced too.

I don't remember how this was in earlier versions, but at least now you have to shorten the lines one by one.
