Is it possible to use the DHTML Menu Builder with VSD 6.0?
If it is how do I delete the old navigation from an existing Theme?
If I cannot use the DHTML Menu Builder is there another way of providing drop down menus in VSD 6.0

You can use the DHTML Menu Builder to create your menu.

Then open VSD, use the insert HTML box, and put the menu code in the body section.

You should be able to delete the old navigation bu clicking on each individual link and deleting that link.

Followed your steps and it inserted perfectly. So many thanks for that.

The first version of my site was done with the HTML editor only. I recently upgraded everything, and now I'm experimenting with the VSD. After a year or so of using only HTML for everything, the VSD is a nice break :)

So here's my dilema: Using a theme. Want the DHTML menu to appear below the banner image, on a lighter shaded bar than the rest of the background. Using VSD, I inserted the object where I wanted it, and expanded it out, (just for design , so I don't put anything over the darn thing)...

But when I preview the page, the menu shows up at the top left. How do I change it's position from Top Left to where I actually want the darn thing?

Hi Richard,
look for this part of your code:
var StartTop=1; // Menu offset x coordinate
var StartLeft=1; // Menu offset y coordinate

and change the 1 to however many pixels from the top (start top ) and pixels from the left (start left) just use a guessitmate and go from there til your where you want it, or provide a link and we'll see if we can be more precise.:)

Here's the link:
http://www.probikelaredo.com/2010/

Trying to decide on the right spot for the menu. some of the menu choices have 4 or 5 levels below them. At this point in time only the top most level of the menu (level that's always visible) has active links.

Looking at the index page, I'd like to put the menu bar beneath the company name, and along the grey bar that looks like the top of an image.

Or, centered at the top of the page, or even aligned to the right, but I'd be concerned with the way the menu would display, especially with as many sublevels that i've built.

And if you want to see the previous version of the site, just take off the 2010 in the link. Radical shift, eh?

Honestly, I'd love to build a custom theme that reflects the industry this is for...very few sporting related themes that deal specifically with cycling. I work for the company, but they're paying me specifically to do the site. There are a lot of things I'd love to implement here, and I'd love feedback, just be constructfully critical?

The owner wants a site like this:
http://www.bianchibikeshop.com/
But my flash skills are sorely lacking :(

Hi Richard,
I see your using VSD, the menu would indeed overlap your text, and with it in the upper right it would overlap the image a little as well-is a nice website though. I'll have for you in a few minutes let me give it a look see.
Richared if you remove all your coding for that menu and download this zip.
http://www.myofficialnewbie.com/zipfiles/menu.zip
it has an a couple items in it to use-1 is a menu.js file which you will need to add into VSD by going to settings add file, and the text file is the code you would paste where you want the code. make sense?
Now with that said if you download this tutorial on how it works and what to change to your preferences:
http://www.myofficialnewbie.com/zipfiles/probiketutorial.zip
this show you all... if you still have questions don't hesitate to ask :)

Bruzer,

The menu.js file...is that just a text file with the javascript for the menu in it?

So how do I reference the file? Sorry, lost the 2 zip files to a drive crash. Is it like inserting an object into the code? I think I know how to do this, but I'm a bit rusty. I'd rather just makes changes to one file, than to every darn page ;)

Rendon,

It's useless to combine DHTML menus and VSD. Although you can import the DHTML menu code into VSD, how would you link each menu item to the corresponding VSD page? That would be rather difficult.... It 's much better and far easier to make menus in VSD, and use a combination of a horizontal and vertical layout to switch to each and every page. I made an example for you to show you what I mean: http://www.johnvanhulst.com/probike . You see that I made a vertical menu for the main categories (home/bikes/gear/services) and I worked out one horizontal example, for the 'bikes' sub-categories (mountain/road/youth/exercizers). Within each category you can swith to each other category, and in the 'bikes' sub-category you can switch to each other sub-page and to the main pages.

Something like this can be seen here too: http://www.djtwister.nl . This (dutch language) website also integrates flash, music, youtube movies and a slideshow. The 'nieuws-agenda' and the ' foto-video' button expand....

Regards, John

P.S. The banner is a GIF animation....
P.S.-2. You all might wonder how much time it took me to make this. Only 3 hours, including the GIF animation... That's how fast you can set up a good-looking an logical, well organized frame for a website with VSD....
