Visual Site Designer - Help with...

Hello,

We are trying to build a profile of why some of these reported issues are occurring with Visual Site Designer. If you are having random crashes, saving issues etc., please go through each step listed below.

Please, it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT YOU ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS! Please send your answers and .nfo file to scott@coffeecup.com

General:
1. Uninstall the version you have now, make sure all files are removed from the C:\Program Files\CoffeeCup Software\CoffeeCup Visual Site Designer\ folder on your hard drive.

2. Download the latest version from http://care.coffeecup.com/support/ (5.9.4).

3. Go to Start > Run and type msinfo32.exe When the System Information window appears, select File > Save and save it as yourlastname.nfo, then attach that with all your answers.

4. Do you have a "C:\WINDOWS\system32" folder, a "C:\winnt\system32" folder, or none of the above?

5. Did you install Visual Site Designer into the default C:\ folder or to another location?

6. Was your VSD working fine for a while, and then it stopped working (same version, WITHOUT upgrading)?

7. Did a previous version work with out any problems? If so, what was the version number?

8. What is your default browser and version number?

9. When you preview your Website within VSD, does it look correct?

10. When you save your Website, does everything get saved correctly?

11. Where are your Website files stored on your hard-drive?

12. Are you running any Anti-virus or other 3rd party security? If so, what are they?

13. Try disabling each of the firewall or anti-virus applications and see if there is any change.

14. If you're having FTP upload problems, try to use the Test Connection function. Do you get any errors?

15. Under your FTP Settings > Advanced options, if you check or un-check the passive box, does that have any impact?

16. If your Website is not appearing online correctly (images incorrect etc.), try the re-sync option. Did that help?

17. If you're having FTP upload problems, have you tried uploading to another server to see if that helps?

18. If you're having FTP upload problems, have you tried a 3rd party FTP program to see if that helps?


XP Users:
1. Is Windows Firewall enabled? If enabled, add Visual Site Designer to the exceptions tab.

2. Is your user account an Administrator or Limited user? If your running as a limited user, try running as an administrator.


Vista Users:
1. Try disabling User Account Controls (UAC) and see if that works.

2. Add Visual Site Designer to Windows D.E.P. - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875352

3. Right click on the VSD desktop icon and check the box run as administrator. Does it work now?

15. Under your FTP Settings > Advanced options, if you check or un-check the passive box, does that have any impact?

I clicked the PASSIVE box and was cured! :)
