PC, Using Windows XP, 4GB Ram, 750 GB disk
I've had this same problem with 2 separate websites I've created:
http://www.abe21.net
http://www.coyotecreekconcerts.com
This problem started when I upgraded to VSD 6.0. Sections of my websites are dynamic, changing at least weekly (sometimes more often) . One is a quasi-online community newspaper, so pages expand and contract depending on how much content I have available (slow/busy news day). I have two issues with VDS:
1) Using the guidelines, I have painstakingly created a 4-column format (print media always uses some columnar grid format, i.e., 2-column, 3-column, gutters, etc. In essence I've created a layout template so that pages look consistent. But, if I create a new page based upon an existing page with layout guidelines in place, the guidelines disappear on the new page. This means I get to re-invent the wheel, a lot. Is there some reason that guidelines can't more forward to new pages along with the other copied images, text, etc. from the original page? This is on my future VSD want list, but is currently in my poor, poor pitiful me file.
THE ACTUAL BUG
2) Along the same vein, I believe I've discovered a new esoteric bug in VSD. I sit with my beautifully guideline formatted, 1200 pixel tall page. I decide the page is too long so I reduce the page to 1000 pixels using the Page Properties. Instantly my page is overlaid with the 1X grid. Since there isn't a way to turn off the grid separately from the handcrafted guidelines, my only option to get rid of the the grid is to "Remove Guides" at which time my painfully created guidelines disappear along with the grid. Please note, Scott does not magically appear by my side offering to fix my boo-boo, and I get to re-create the whole mess again. Honestly if he did show up I'd give him a donut or something. This problem occurs whether you expand/contract both the height or width of an existing page. It also is not confined to the Main page, the bug pops up the same way on any existing page of any size, as far as I can determine. It did not occur prior to version 6. Anybody have work-arounds I'm unaware of?
