Uploading... If the files are...

i am using vsd 5.9.4
vista premium
hostway for hosting

on upload it tells me that files aren't found in the folder it should be. yet the files are sitting RIGHT THERE in said folder. i even opened each of them and they are actual files with actual "weight" to them.

this is what i've tried so far based on searching the forums:

renaming the site and making sure all files are in the folders.
reconstructing each page so that all flash and pictures are in the folders
when i got the 'swfobject.js' missing file error, i uninstalled, rebooted, re-installed flash player.
added files using the 'add file' feature of vsd

this is what i am still having problems with:

i tested a one pager and vsd cannot find the file that is actually sitting in the folder
on the larger site, still missing the swfobject.js file

i'm sad and want to know WHAT ELSE can i do. i've been searching the forum for 2 hours now :(

hello!
are all your files located in the /wwww folder on your server?
I don't know how Vista works but by default all images placed into VSD are normally saved in the generated files folder. All swf's (flash) files would be located outside that folder. In the built-in ftp settings for hostway where it says WWW folder should be /www.

outside or in the root folder ( /www ) should be all pages xmls, swf's html

Additionally! when it asks about the swfobject.js file it's asking to be added to vsd because assuming as I normally do if you made a flash project with one Coffeecups programs you should see it in the folder it was saved in, just use the add files under settings and that should take care of it.

i cannot even get it to that point. i think...

that's another thing i'm having a problem with

since hostway just recently updated my account from value web i'm trying to figure out how to use IT now.

so when i use their ftp it won't load properly in my browser window and it moves sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo slow. i have to click on the screen for the folders to 'appear'. i gave up and went back to vsd.

even trying figure out the terminology for this stuff to upload is nuts.

i currently have that configured in vsd as such:

FTP server: mydomain.net
username: myusername
password: mypassword
www folder: /mydomain.net/www

is this wrong? part of the problem?

ok... see i still don't get it..

ok... so...

on the smaller website i placed a small text box on it and uploaded it to see if it would publish. vsd says it is successful but when i go to view the site... there are no changes.

i even removed the 'www' info and it didn't post the updated page

on the larger site i removed aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall flash "stuff. same thing. it says it published but in fact it didn't.

hold on let me go try something else...

ok... so this is the change i made:

old - www folder: /mydomain.net/www
new - www folder: /www

that worked on my smaller test site. let me go and add my flash to my main site and see if it works... one page at a time though! lol

Another thing when using coffeecup's flash programs, (except Firestarter) all you have to do is use the flash tool( has a lightning bolt on they call it) make a box as if using the html tool and locate the xml file that the flash program produces and VSD will add all the files for that flash automatically for you, no worries. no longer need to use the add files if you don't want to, best not to or you can forget a file like the swfobject as in your case.

got it...

so it seems my problem was in that 'www' folder... only need to type those three little letters. this is so annoying. with value web, i didnt' get any instructions on this stuff (i figured this out reading you alls' postings).

with hostway, i like the upgrade but this terminology and lack of "help for dummies' sentence structure is messing with my emotions! i could have BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN done. lol

my firestarter uploaded wonderfully...

now i'll add my flash menus.
