I need to transfer our site to a new computer -- from XP to Windows 7.

Our files were in My Documents folder on the XP computer but the new computer it says just Documents.

Should I just put all the CC files in 'Documents'?

Just thought I'd ask before I had a big mess on my hands...........:)

thanks

The easiest way to do this is in VSD go to the File Menu > Save As and then save your site to a USB drive. Then on the new system copy that folder over to where you want to use it.

I already have the old computer shut down and the new set up so can't do that now. Guess I should have asked before.

So I will just have to put everything into 'Documents' --- but I did see when copying other docs that the subfolder is actually 'My Documents' so I may not have a problem.

Thanks

How 'old' is the old system? If it has a SATA hard drive, you could have a few fairly easy options for retrieval of the 'old' files... First, remove the HD from the old system and install in new system (with power off of course ;) ). When system loads, you will have to right click on the 'new'/old drive and go to properties. From here, the easiest way to allow access would probably be to allow "Sharing". Now you should be able to 'see' the files, and access them. Then you can do as Scott suggested. I'm doing this right now, with a drive from my sisters desktop that just died on them, so I can retrieve some files before they trash... I mean recycle :D... the 'puter. Their system was XP and mine is WIN 7 and access is fine now that I've enabled 'sharing'.

Well, I think your idea is great but this old brain can't begin to want to try that. I have read in other posts that I can just load everything into the same relative paths but of course I am not sure if the new computer has the same path or not as the old XP.

But I did find the 'my documents' -- thought it was just named Documents --- so I think I will be fine or else I will be back on here with more problems. :(

Just wanted to let you all know it worked like a charm. I downloaded all the programs into the new computer first then it just pulled up VSD and the shopping cart just fine after I transferred my files via a thumb drive.

I might remind everyone to not do like I did and backup your files to a thumb drive and then lay it down among 6 other flash drives. Thought I had the right one but no I had a backup that was a couple of days old! Decided to leave well enough alone and just correct the few photos I had changed at the last. ;)

So everything working great and I am noticing some new features from the new software that I am really loving.

Thanks for fantastic software!

I have been wondering this my self because I want to upgrade to Windows 7 and Im worried that I will loose my website.

Scott I take it for granted I need to save each page separately or am I missing the point and the whole website is in a certain file Im not seeing.

Thanks Craig

It should save the correct files you'll need for your whole site when you do that Craig :)
